11:00pm

Here we go then! Martin Guptill takes strike for the Blackcaps.

Namibia open with the left-arm spin of Bernard Scholtz.

10:58pm

Anthems done and dusted, first ball coming up!

10:53pm

Both teams make their way out to the middle for the anthems.

10:40pm

A high temperature of 30 degrees is expected today - less than what the Blackcaps faced in Dubai on Wednesday, but still pretty unpleasant for the batsmen.

Spare a thought for Martin Guptill, who'll be opening up again after his knock against Scotland that saw him lose 4.5kg out in the heat.

10:35pm

The Blackcaps are unchanged from their win over Scotland.

If there's any sign of how tough these conditions are, Namibia's Jan Frylinck has been ruled out with dehyrdation...

NZ: 1-Martin Guptill, 2-Daryl Mitchell, 3-Kane Williamson (c), 4-Devon Conway, 5-Glenn Phillips, 6-Jimmy Neesham, 7-Mitchell Santner, 8-Adam Milne, 9-Tim Southee, 10-Ish Sodhi, 11-Trent Boult.

Namibia: 1-Stephen Baard, 2-Michael van Lingen, 3-Craig Williams, 4-Gerhard Erasmus (c), 5-David Wiese, 6-JJ Smith, 7-Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, 8-Zane Green (wk) 9-Karl Birkenstock, 10-Ruben Trumpelman, 11-Bernard Scholz

10:33pm

Namibia win the toss, and will bowl first.

10:25pm

Good evening! Thank you for joining us so late on a Friday!

We're about five minutes away from the toss, and team announcements.

Kia ora, good evening and welcome to Newshub's live updates of this Twenty20 World Cup clash between New Zealand and Namibia from Sharjah.

After Wednesday's victory over Scotland in Dubai, the Blackcaps' equation is simple in the race to the semi-finals - two wins from two and they're in.

But while Sunday night's encounter with Afghanistan will loom as an effective quarter-final, tonight's showdown against Namibia could just be a banana peel fixture that the Blackcaps have to avoid slipping on at all costs.

Sadly, conditions won't favour good cricket for either side. The Sharjah wicket is the lowest and slowest of the three venues for this World Cup, while the early start will see the searing desert heat come into play - as it did against Scotland.

Good news for the Kiwis sees Martin Guptill cleared to play, after his breathtaking 93 runs in the Dubai heat.

Opponents Namibia will hope that captain Gerhard Erasmus is passed fit, after struggling with a finger injury.

Namibia boast players out of South Africa's first class system and even have the services of hard-hitting all-rounder David Wiese, who racked up 20 T20 Internationals for the Proteas, before switching his allegiance for this tournament.

Tonight is the first time the Blackcaps have faced Namibia in any form of international cricket.

TAB odds: NZ $1.02, Namibia $12

Predicted teams:

NZ: Martin Guptill, Daryl Mitchell, Kane Williamson (c), Devon Conway (wk), Glenn Phillips, Jimmy Neesham, Mitchell Santner, Tim Southee, Adam Milne, Ish Sodhi, Trent Boult

Namibia: Stephen Baard, Michael van Lingen, Craig Williams, Gerhard Erasmus (c), David Wiese, JJ Smit, Jan Frylinck, Zane Green (wk), Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, Ruben Trumpleman, Bernard Scholtz

Blackcaps hero Martin Guptill fully recovered from heat exhaustion, ready to face Namibia

Blackcaps batting hero Martin Guptill has fully recovered from heat exhaustion, after his matchwinning knock against Scotland, and will be available to face Namibia at the T20 World Cup on Friday.

New Zealand took another step towards the tournament semi-finals with a hard-fought victory over the Scots and must now overcome the African side - who also progressed through qualifying - to keep their hopes alive.

Guptill was instrumental to the result, stroking 93 runs off 56 balls, before succumbing to the Dubai heat more than a wily Scottish bowling attack.

The opener lost 4.5kg in bodyweight during his 92-minute innings and admitted to feeling "pretty cooked" afterwards.

New Zealand opened its campaign with night games against Pakistan and India, and may have been caught on the backfoot in their first daytime outing, but coach Gary Stead says his kingpin has recovered well and will likely face Namibia at Sharjah.

"The hottest part of the day is between 11am-3pm, so when we're batting there and Gup was running between wickets, and also had the blow on his foot a couple of games back... it all compounded together," he says.

"But it was a really important innings for us and Martin played beautifully out there. He scrubbed up well today and will certainly be available for us tomorrow, as will everyone else in the squad."

Given the must-win nature of World Cup pool play, Stead has ruled out the notion of resting and rotating players against the lower-ranked sides, despite a looming showdown against dangerous Afghanistan in two days.

"The way we've trained and conditioned the guys is to handle this period of time," he says.

"Part of our warm-up schedule was playing three games in five days to get the guys tested and ready, and into that frame of mind for the backend of the tournament."
