Basketball: NZ Breakers still searching for first win of new season, comprehensively beaten by Melbourne United

NZ Breakers remain the only team in the ANBL without a win in the 2021/22 season following their 83-60 defeat by Melbourne United at John Cain Arena.

Two days on from a double-overtime loss to Illawarra Hawks, the Kiwi side were again on the wrong end of a scoreline - albeit this time comprehensively beaten in search of their maiden victory of the new season.

The defeat sees the Breakers lose five consecutive matches for the first time in the club's history.

Led by Caleb Agada (20 points, five rebounds, three assists) and Chris Goulding (21 points, three rebounds, three assists), Melbourne outclassed the Breakers in three of the four quarters, easing to victory in front of their home fans.

Captain Finn Delany (14 points, nine rebounds, four assists) stood out for the Breakers, while Yanni Wetzell (12 points, four rebounds) also stood out - but were the only two players to score in double figures.

The loss leaves the Breakers winless from their first five games of the new season, currently based in Australia due to COVID-19 travel restrictions. The Kiwi side is 10th of the 10 teams on the competition ladder.

But the Kiwi side can now regroup, not playing again until facing ANBL expansion side Tasmania JackJumpers on Boxing Day.

Melbourne United meanwhile improve their record to 2-2, sitting in fifth on the ladder after four games played so far this season.
