Tokyo Olympics star David Nyika has overwhelmed his French opponent in his first bout as a fulltime professional on the Joseph Parker-Derek Chisora undercard.
The Kiwi cruiserweight totally dominated Anthony Carpin over the initial three minutes and when the bell rang to end those initial exchanges, the Frenchman - a late call-up six days out - called enough, complaining of an elbow injury.
Commentators were unsurprised, insisting that Nyika - a double Commonwealth Games gold medallist and bronze winner at Tokyo - was simply a class above his rival and worth fast-tracking, after just two pro fights.
The towering Hamiltonian opened his pro career with a one-round knockout of fellow Kiwi Jesse Maio on the Joseph Parker-Junior Fa bout in February, as part of his Tokyo preparation. Olympic rules were tweaked, so boxers could fight professionally before competing at the Games.
After taking bronze at Tokyo, Nyika promptly retired from amateur ranks and accompanied Parker to Morcambe to prepare for his new career, relearning his craft under the critical eye of world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury.
DAZN commentator and Rio Olympic bronze medallist Joshua Buatsi is suitably impressed with an athlete he has faced in the ring.
"Other fighters, you hear them talk and you say, 'I think he's quite good', but David has shown me he's a good fighter," says Buatsi. "Tonight, he demonstrated it again."
