Cricket: Ex-Blackcaps batter Colin Munro shines again in Australia's Big Bash League as Perth Scorchers thrash Melbourne Renegades

Former Blackcaps batter Colin Munro has shone again playing in the Australian Big Bash League, plundering an unbeaten half-century in his Perth Scorchers' victory over Melbourne Renegades on Sunday.

Chasing 152 runs for victory at Melbourne's Marvel Stadium, Munro smashed 58 not out from 32 balls to guide the Scorchers home with eight wickets and 19 balls to spare.

The former New Zealand international hit six boundaries and two sixes in his knock, combining in a match-winning unbeaten partnership of 99 runs with Australian Mitchell Marsh (42 not out).

Munro, 34, currently sits fourth on the 2021/22 Big Bash League run scoring chart, with 204 runs in his six innings, coming at an average of 51 and a strike rate of over 140, with a best of 114 not out - scored against Adelaide Strikers earlier this month.

Only Australian internationals Josh Philippe (295 runs), Marsh (249) and Moises Henriques (242) have scored more than Munro so far this season.

The win sees the Scorchers move top of the Big Bash League table, with a perfect six wins from six matches played, four points clear of second placed Sydney Sixers.

Despite Munro's heroics with the bat though, Marsh took home man-of-the-match honours, with his unbeaten 42 backed up by figures of 1/18 with the ball.

Munro hasn't played for New Zealand since February 2020, overlooked despite his status as one of Twenty20 cricket's most devastating players at club and international level.
