Cricket: Young fan left bloodied, after spilling catch during Big Bash match in Hobart

A young cricket fan has been left bloodied and embarrassed, after dropping a crowd catch during the Big Bash clash between Hobart Hurricanes and Perth Scorchers.

Hurricanes batsman Ben McDermott belted a Andrew Tye slower ball over the mid-wicket boundary for six, but attempting to make the catch, the spectator misjudged and was smashed in the forehead.

The youngster clutched his face and removed his protective face mask, as blood flowed down his face.

Others quickly came to his aid and signalled for medical assistance.

"Hopefully, he’s all OK," said commentator Jason Richardson. "He’s in the hands of the medics."

With 15 sixes struck in total, the Hobart crowd enjoyed plenty of catching opportunities during the match, with Mitchell Marsh's 60-ball century propelling Perth to victory.

The Scorchers scored 182/5 from 20 overs, before rolling the Hurricanes for 129 in 19 overs.
