Football: COVID-19 concerns postpone Wellington Phoenix's FFA Cup quarter-final with Melbourne City

Wellington Phoenix's FFA Cup quarter-final against Melbourne City has been postponed as Australian football continues to battle a wave of COVID-19.

Originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday night (NZ time) at Casey Fields in Melbourne, the fixture has been postponed until a later date.

Football Australia says the postponement is a result of "confirmed positive COVID-19 cases within one of the participating clubs, and potential close and/or casual contact exposure to representatives of another participating club".

The Phoenix have confirmed that none of its players or staff are currently positive for COVID-19, as the team now attempts to leave Melbourne and return to Sydney.

No word has been given on when the quarter-final will be rescheduled.

The FFA round of 16 clash between Gold Coast Knights and Melbourne Victory - which was due to be held on the Gold Coast on Thursday - has also been postponed for the same reason.

The Phoenix had reached the FFA Cup's quarter-finals for the first time, defeating Avondale FC 4-1 in their round of 16 encounter last week.
