Football Ferns star Hannah Wilkinson has bagged an astonishing five-goal haul for Melbourne City in their A-League Women's fixture against Melbourne Victory on Sunday.

Wilkinson became just the second player in the competition's history to score five goals in a single match, tying a record set by Perth Glory's Kate Gill in 2014, as she steered her side to a 5-1 victory.

She opened the scoring in the fifth minute, before capitalising on a goalkeeper error eight minutes later, then pouncing to seal her hat-trick after just 26 minutes of play.

In the 56th minute, Wilkinson chipped in her fourth, then rounded out her haul by tapping home at the back post in the 74th.

"She was five-star," Melbourne City coach Dario Vidosic. "We are happy for her.

"It was always coming. She was excellent in round-one. She was again excellent, putting herself in great positions."

Wilkinson's performance gives her a commanding four-goal lead at the the top of the league's goal-scorer leaderboard.
