Motorsport: Australian Supercars championship returns to Pukekohe after two-year absence

Pukekohe Park Raceway will return to the Australian Supercars calendar next year, with the Auckland SuperSprint event scheduled for September.

Introduced in 2001, the New Zealand round has slipped off the championship itinerary over the past two years, due to COVID-19 restrictions, but has been included as the 10th stop of a 13-event 2022 series.

If it proceeds, the Auckland round would be the 20th staged on this side of the Tasman and 15th at Pukekohe. Between 2008-12, Hamilton hosted a street-circuit event.

"The 2022 season will follow an unprecedented two years for Supercars, in which the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in two revised calendars - a huge achievement, given the nature of the sport,” says Supercars chief executive Sean Seamer.

"It has been fantastic to welcome fans back to events this year, and we will continue to ensure this is done safely and in line with national guidelines, as we welcome more fans back in 2022.

"We are very pleased with the interest in Supercars growing continuously through large audiences watching our world-class broadcast and a significant growth of our presence online across the globe.”
