NZ 328 & 147/5 - Taylor 37* Ravindra 6*
Bangladesh 458

NZ lead by 17 runs

6:34pm - STUMPS

Do not adjust your screens, this is Bangladesh's test to lose.

The visitors have dominated from day two onwards, and will enter day five with a shot at their first victory against New Zealand - in any format - away from home. They'll need to take the last five wickets tomorrow, but the lead is only 17 runs.

For the Blackcaps, it's all on Ross Taylor. The veteran holds the key to the Blackcaps' survival hopes, joined by rookie Rachin Ravindra.

They'll resume tomorrow morning, as will we.

Join us then for what should be an exciting conclusion to the first test of the summer!

6:32pm - 63rd over

Change of ends for Ebadot. This could be the last over of the day. Taylor on strike.

Short to start, and Taylor turns the ball through square leg and gets one.

Taylor gets a single by turning the ball to the leg side. Ravindra to face.

He survives the over.

NZ 143/5

Taylor turns a full toss to midwicket and gets a single, bringing Ravindra to face.

Ravindra plays out the over.

NZ 142/5

6:07pm - 57th over

Even more responsibility falls on Taylor, as Mehidy continues.

Mehidy tosses the first ball up, and Taylor drives a single to cover.

Ravindra to face the off-spinner. Mehidy drops short, and Ravindra cuts four through cover to get off the mark.

NZ 141/5

6:04pm - 56th over

Ebadot continues (why wouldn't he?!) to Blundell.

WICKET! And there's another! Blundell is trapped on the pad in front of the stumps, and given out lbw! Blundell reviews - perhaps more in hope than expectation. No bat involved, and hitting leg stump. Blundell goes for a duck.

Rachin Ravindra replaces him. He survuves the rest of the over.

NZ 136/5

5:56pm - 55th over

What an over for Bangladesh. A lot of responsibility resting on Taylor now. He'll face Mehidy.

And he plays out a maiden.

NZ 136/4

5:53pm - 54th over

Ebadot to Taylor.

Three balls left in the over as Nicholls takes guard. Huge appeal for lbw as Nicholls plays back, given not out. Bangladesh can't review.

WICKET! But Nicholls doesn't survive this time! Ebadot goes full, and Nicholls looks for the straight drive, misses and is bowled! That's a second ball duck for Nicholls, Tom Blundell replaces him - in need of a score.

One ball to come. And Blundell defends.

NZ 136/4

5:45pm - 53rd over

Young back on strike. He gets a single down to long-on as well.

NZ 124/2

5:25pm - 48th over

Back after drinks, with an hour to go. Ebadot returns, bowling to Taylor.

Huge lbw appeal as a ball keeps low and strikes Taylor on the pad! The umpire says no, and Bangladesh are out of reviews! That looked close! Replays show the ball just going over the top of the stumps.

Taylor replies by lofting Ebadot straight back over his head for four runs! Great shot, and Bangladesh's lead is down to single figures.

NZ 121/2

5:16pm - 47th over

Bowling change, spin from both ends as Mominul brings himself into the attack.

Starts short and Young goes back and drives out to deep cover for one.

Just two from the over. That's drinks.

Mehidy to Young.

Shot! Young sweeps the first ball of the over and gets four behind square on the off-side.

Mehidy drops the last ball of the over in short, and Young goes back and cuts in front of square for three, and that's the 50-run stand between him and Taylor.

NZ 115/2

5:09pm - 45th over

Shoriful around the wicket to Taylor.

There's reverse swing there for Shoriful, and he beats Taylor's attempted drive comfortably.

First ball is full, and Taylor drives down the ground for a single to long-on.

Shoriful comes around the wicket to Young.

Young drives through cover and picks up a boundary, and that brings up the Blackcaps' 100!

Just the four runs from the over.

NZ 101/2

4:56pm - 42nd over

Mehidy for another to Taylor.

Lbw appeal first ball as Taylor sweeps, but he's outside the line of off-stump. Not out the call, and no reviews for Bangladesh.

Chance! Taylor slog-sweeps, and doesn't get it cleanly, Shadman lines up the catch on the midwicket boundary - but he drops it! They run one.

Young gets one behind square on the leg side, and gets off strike.

Taylor faces, and he looks for a huge slog-sweep, but is beaten by bounce. And he goes again and misses again next ball! Taylor needs to be careful here, we saw him undone by playing like this in India.

One ball to come. Taylor turns a single to short fine leg.

NZ 92/2

4:35pm - 37th over

Taskin to Young.

Big lbw appeal first ball, but it's clearly missing leg. They run a leg bye.

Taylor on strike. He turns one more to midwicket and steals a single. Good running.

Taskin goes short to Young, and he pulls out to midwicket for one more.

Another lbw appeal, this time against Taylor. Umpire says no, and Bangladesh reviews. This looks like it came off the bat, but did it hit the toe first.

Nope, it's come straight off the bat. Bangladesh have wasted all three of their reviews, and they've all been - quite frankly - rubbish.

One ball to come, and he drives but can't beat mid-off.

NZ 90/2

4:29pm - 36th over

Mehidy to Taylor.

Taylor gets the slog sweep out first ball, but mistimes it and gets a single to midwicket, rather than hit it over the rope.

Young faces. He defends to cover and runs a comfortable single.

Taylor back on strike, and now he works one off his pads for one more to midwicket.

Young returns to face. He sweeps, but is hit on the pad outside off, and runs a leg bye.

NZ 87/2

4:26pm - 35th over

Taskin to Taylor.

He pushes a single to cover with the last ball for one.

Just a single from the over.

NZ 83/2

4:20pm - 34th over

NZ 74/2

4:03pm - 30th over

Too full to start, and Taylor works a single down to long-on. Young faces, and he defends to vacant point and gets one.

Lbw appeal against Taylor! Given not out. Huge turn, but was it doing too much? Bangladesh don't refer.

Taylor plays out the over. Replays show the lbw shout was going over the top.

NZ 70/2

3:59pm

And we're back for the final session. Mominul leads Bangladesh onto the field, eight wickets away from something special.

Young and Taylor follow suit. They need to bat New Zealand into a lead before the loss of another wicket - at least.

3:43pm - TEA

You'd probably have to give that session to Bangladesh.

They claimed the wickets of Latham and Conway, and are still 62 runs to the goods.

But NZ still have eight wickets up their sleeve, but will need to bat phenomenally from here if they're to force Bangladesh into a defendable target tomorrow.

We'll be back in about 20 minutes for the final session of the day.

3:41pm - 29th over

Ebadot for his ninth straight over, big effort from the quick. Taylor faces.

Goes short to start, and Taylor wears it. Ouch. Appeal for a catch down leg and turned down, but Mominul refers. Bangladesh look confident, did it hit the gloves?

Nope, it's straight off the thigh pad. Bangladesh have now burned two reviews on caught down leg appeals.

Ebadot then goes too full, and Taylor drives him out to the cover boundary for three.

Young on strike, two balls to come. He sees out the over. And that'll be tea!

NZ 68/2

Young is troubled outside his off-stump, but he gets through a maiden over.

NZ 64/2

3:28pm - 26th over

Mahedi to Young.

Chance! Young's given a life! He plays back to ball that turns, and gets an edge that Das can't hold onto behind the stumps! It's all happening!

Young sweeps the last ball of the over and gets a single to deep square leg.

One from the over.

NZ 64/2

3:25pm - 25th over

Seventh over on the trot for Ebadot.

Too full to Conway first ball, and he's driven through cover for two runs.

WICKET! Huge lbw appeal against Conway! The ball's popped up and they're claiming the catch too. Not out the decision, and Bangladesh refer. There's an inside edge! Conway goes for 13, caught by Ebadot.

Ross Taylor comes to the middle at No.4, and NZ need a score from him in his penultimate test match. Four balls for Taylor this over.

Appeal against Taylor for caught down the leg side with the penultimate ball of the over, not out the call, Bangladesh don't refer.

Taylor survives.

NZ 63/2

3:18pm - 24th over

Another over from Mehidy, Conway faces.

Conway sweeps first ball and gets a single to square leg.

Three runs from it.

NZ 50/1

2:59pm - 19th over

Ebadot comes around the wicket to Conway.

Conway drives the first ball, and doesn't get it properly and takes an edge through the gully for two.

Extra bounce again on ball five, but Conway rides it and steers behind point for four, his first boundary.

Six runs from the over.

NZ 49/1

2:55pm - 18th over

Mehidy to Conway, who's not scoring as freely as he was in the first.

Conway steals a leg bye to square leg, and Das looks like he's hurt his knee chasing the ball. He'll stay out there for now.

Young drives out towards deep point, and they come back for two.

Three runs from the over.

NZ 43/1

2:51pm - 17th over

Ebadot continues after drinks, Young on strike.

NZ 40/1

Just a single from the over.

Conway back on strike, and he turns the ball down to fine leg, one more run to the total.

One run from the over.

NZ 30/1

2:13pm - 9th over

Taskin to Young.

Starts straight, and Young works the ball out to the square leg boundary. Mushfiqur looks to have saved four, but they run three. It's a no-ball too.

WICKET! Latham to face, and he drags back onto his stumps! Extra bounce, and Latham plays cross-batted, catching the inside edge back onto leg stump. Latham goes for 14, Devon Conway comes in at No.3.

Conway takes guard, two balls to come in the over. He blocks and leaves to finish the over.

NZ 29/1

2:04pm - 8th over

The last ball of the over is too full, and Latham drives it for four through mid-off.

Latham plays out the over.

NZ 11/0

1:41pm

Bangladesh make their way out to the middle, they're 10 good bits of cricket away from forcing arguably their finest test victory.

Latham and Young arrive at the crease. Young marks his guard to face first after lunch. Shoriful will take the ball.

1:37pm

Not long to go until the afternoon session. The Blackcaps are still 120 runs away from making Bangladesh bat again, but the pitch is hardly a minefield.

The only question is whether there's enough time for the Blackcaps to bat large enough to try and force a result, meaning they'll have to take some risks if they're to force Bangladesh into a run chase tomorrow.

Still a lot of cricket to be played though, and anything can happen!

LUNCH

12:59pm - 3rd over

This will be the final over of the session - Mehidy Hasan with an over of offspin.

Maiden from Mehidy and that will be lunch.

12:55pm - 2nd over

Shoriful Islam to open from the other end with his lef-arm swing.

Latham very loose outside off and gets an edge through where third slip would be and has four. Bangladesh going with just two slips and a gully .... crazy!

Latham drives off the back foot and has three runs.

12:51pm - 1st over

Taskin to open up - Latham on strike.

Big swing first up into Latham and he kinda plays a shot and it hits him on the front pad outside the line. That was hitting if he wasn't playing a shot but umpire says no and Bangladesh don't review.

Latham drives down the ground past the bowler and has three runs.

New Zealand second innings

Innings wrap: Bangladesh lead by 130 - that will take at 40-55 overs to knock off for the Kiwis which would take us close to midway through the last session so you'd have tp say a New Zealand victory is almost gone. But if the Tigers can pick up early wickets then huge pressure wil come onto the world champions missing their best batsman.

12:40pm - 177th over

Trent Boult is back - replacing Jamieson.

Wicket: Bowled him! That all ended very quickly. Boult with a yorker knocks over Shoriful and the innings is over. New Zealand will have to bat for a 2 or 3 overs before lunch.
Shoriful Islam b Boult 7 FOW 458

12:34pm - 176th over

Southee to continue.

Shoriful swings over the top of mid-off... ball pitches and stops and he comes back for two.

Taskin Ahmed lbw b Southee 5  FOW 458/9

12:28pm - 175th over

Jamieson to continue - 0/75 from 34.

Mehidy forces off the back-foot through point for four - lovely shot.

Jamieson just lumbering in this morning and putting the ball on a length - Bangladesh have battered him into submission.

Maiden from KJ - Mehidy only had to play at one.

11:45am - 166th over

Boult continues.

Down the leg-side from Boult and Yasir flicks this down the fine-leg for four. Lead is over 100 and for me - the Blackcaps can no longer win this match.

11:40am - 165th over

Southee to continue.

Just a single from the over.

11:37am - 164th over

Southee continues.

Mehidy struck on his bowling arm by a Southee bouncer and he is getting some attention from the medical staff.

Eight-minute delay for the injury, but Mehidy is good to go now and picks up three with a drive down the ground.

11:21am - 162nd over

Trent Boult will take the new ball down wind.

Top edge from Mehidy but it falls once bounce short of Jamieson at deep fine-leg.

11:17am - 161st over

New ball is due and Tom Latham hands it Tim Southee - 0/94 from 32.

Full and swinging and Yasir is on the front foot driving down the ground past a diving Jamieson for four.

11:12am - 160th over

Wagner continues.

Mehidy struck in front by Wagner and umpire Gaffney raises the finger but it's reviewed straight away. Think he edged this one - and yes he did - a big edge back onto the pad. Not out.

11:07am - 159th over

Ravindra to continue.

Mehidy looks to sweep and is stuck pretty much in front and umpire Brown raises the finger. Mehidy reviews and it's a great review - the ball just flicked his glove on the way through.

Mehidy sweeps a full toss and the ball just evades Wagner at short fine-leg.

11:04am - 158th over

Neil Wagner to bowl - 3/98 from 38.

First runs of the morning - Mehidy drops one on the offside and has a single.

11:01am - 157th over

New ball due in four overs, but for now it will be Rachin Ravindra - 0/64 from 26 overs.

Maiden from Ravindra to open up.

10:52am - Closing in on a start to the 4th day - time is running out for the Blackcaps - and you would have to say it would take a brain explosion of epic proportions for Bangladesh to lose from this point.

Kia ora, good morning and welcome to Newshub's live coverage of the opening Blackcaps v Bangladesh at Mt Maunganui's Bay Oval.

After Devon Conway's century set the tone for New Zealand on the opening day, the tourists fought back valiantly on Sunday, wrapping up the home team's lower order cheaply and laying a strong foundation to challenge a 328-run target.

That fight-back continued on Monday, with the Tigers batsman frustrating and denying New Zealand for long periods and are now a good session of batting away from ending the homeside's hopes of victory.

Bangladesh resume Tuesday on 401/6 - 73 runs ahead of New Zealand on a flat wicket that is showing signs of taking turn in the final two days.

The Blackcaps need four wickets in the morning session to have any chance of building enough of a lead to force victory late on the final day.

Play resumes at 11am.
