Live updates: Beijing Winter Olympics day three - Alice Robinson, Margaux Hackett, Finn Bilous and Ben Barclay begin Games campaigns

Live coverage has concluded, please click here for the day's wrap.

8:58pm

So that wraps up all the Kiwi chances for today.

Despite some good efforts from Margaux Hackett, Finn Bilous and Ben Barclay, none of the big air competitors could advance to the finals, while Alice Robinson while be gutted she couldn't challenge in the giant slalom.

But it's not the end of the road for these athletes, with Robinson still to compete in the Super G on Friday, the freeskiers backing up in the slopestyle from Sunday.

This'll wrap up our coverage for today, but be sure to stay with us throughout the week for all the Kiwi action!

8:43pm

France's Adelisse with the chance to knock Barclay out.

And he does, Adelisse lands 83.75 with his final run, and that pushes Barclay down into 13th and out of finals contention.

8:41pm

Now we wait. Can any of the remaining competitors knock Barclay out?

Max Moffatt can only make 61.00 to finish, so Barclay is safe for now.

8:39pm

Here's Barclay, currently 14th, needing more than 80.75 to move into finals contetion.

And he's happy as Bilous gives him a huge hug afterwards.

What will the judges say? It's 84.50! That moves Barclay 12th, and at the moment, into qualification!

8:36pm

Finland's Petola is up, and can't qualify regardless.

He finishes with 72.00, and 28th place.

Ben Barclay is next, New Zealand's last hope.

8:35pm

Here's Bilous, needing over 88.00 for a chance to reach the final.

Again, he's happy with his run, but now we wait for the judges.

Oh, but it's only an 82.00 - so Bilous misses out despite his best run.

A great effort from the New Zealand flag bearer.

8:33pm

Kim Gubser of Switzerland is next, then it'll be Finn Bilous.

Gubser needs 82.00 or better to advance. He scores 41.50 for 21st place.

Bilous up next.

8:31pm

Magnusson's next, currently in third place. He finishes with 84.00, so will advance with a score of 177.25 - third at the moment.

Colin Wili of Switzerland is next. Currently 22nd, needing 84.00 at least to advance. He can't land it, and loses a ski, so that should be him gone.

8:29pm

Svancer needs a perfect score to even crack the top 12. But he can't land, and will exit despite being a medal favourite before Beijing began.

Sweden's Burvall is next, and can't qualify regardless. He finishes with 46.00 for a 21st place finish.

8:26pm

Ragetli can't land his final run, so finishes with 20.75 for 10th place.

Ruud is up next, and he goes to the top with 93.25 for 187.75 all up.

8:24pm

Colby Stevenson finishes with 56.00, for a total of 174.25, enough for fourth place at the moment.

8:23pm

Hall's up first in the final runs, currently leading with 177.75.

And he adds to it with a 89.50 for a combined score of 180.25 - that should see him through.

8:21pm

We've just finished the second runs.

Ben Barclay is in 13th spot, and right on the cusp of booking his ticket to the final.

Finn Bilous meanwhile is 17th, but moved up from 21st after his opening run.

The third runs will get underway shortly. Both Kiwis still in the mix.

8:09pm

With eight still to go in their second runs, Barclay is ninth and Bilous is 13th.

Still one run to go, remember, with the two best scores counting to the total.

7:57pm

Back to the big air. In the middle of the second runs, Barclay holds sixth place while Bilous is in 10th.

At present, both would qualify for the final, but we're not even halfway through yet.

7:55pm

Alice Robinson is up for her second run in the giant slalom.

And she struggles again with one of the left turns in the first sector. She catches her hand in the second sector, and is two seconds behind the leader.

She crosses the line with an overall time of 2:00.82, enough for third equal at the moment, but will only drop down the leaderboard.

7:49pm

And here's Barclay for his second run. Currently equal 17th after 81.00 first up.

Another successful run from Barclay, and he's happy again. It's 78.25, and good enough to move him up into fifth.

Barclay has 159.25 from his first two runs.

7:47pm

The women's giant slalom second runs are now underway.

7:46pm

Here's Bilous, currently 23rd.

He lands his jump, and he's happy afterwards. It's good enough for 68.75, and moves Bilous up into sixth place.

So a good result for now, but it will come down to Bilous' last run to see if he can advance.

7:38pm

Burvall of Sweden's second run is only 55.25, which combined with his 47.25 from the first run sees him in 23rd, and should be the first man out.

Three away from Bilous' second effort.

7:31pm

Meanwhile, we're not far away from the second runs of the giant slalom.

Alice Robinson will go sixth after finishing with the 25th best time in her first run.

7:30pm

Hall goes top again after his second run, 90.75 to give him a combined score of 177.75.

Stevenson goes back second with 90.50 for 174.25.

7:28pm

Right then.

Not a bad first display from the Kiwi pair, but they'll need to improve after a brilliant start from the competition.

Ben Barclay is currently 14th with 81.00, while Finn Bilous is in 21st on 73.75.

A score of around 140 was projected to be around where you'd need to be to qualify, but that probably won't be enough at this rate.

We're about to begin the second runs.

7:26pm

Canada's Evan McEachran is 13th now after his first run, dropping Barclay to 14th equal.

One to come in these first runs. Norway's Ferdinand Dahl. But he can't land, and sits last with 12.00.

7:23pm

Three to come in the first runs. Norway's Christian Nummedal moves to third with his third run, 92.25.

That also pushes Barclay down to 13th equal.

7:18pm

Spain's Javier Lliso moves into third equal after his first run. He scores 90.25.

Barclay is now 12th equal. Bilous is 19th.

7:11pm

Norway's Tormod Frostad moves to fourth after his first run of 90.00.

That drops Barclay to 11th equal.

7:09pm

Canada's Edouard Therriault moves to eighth with 83.50. That drops Barclay to 10th equal.

Bilous is 16th.

7:02pm

Switzerland's Fabian Boesch equals Barclay with 81.00.

Good enough for ninth.

7:01pm

And Sweden's Henrik Harlaut moves into second now with his run of 93.00.

Barclay is now ninth, and Bilous 13th.

There are still two runs to go after this one, however.

6:58pm

And Italy's Leonardo Donaggio produces a stunning first run of 90.25. He shoots up into second, which moves Barclay to eighth, and Bilous to 12th.

6:56pm

Nicholas Goepper's first run is 78.25, enough for ninth to move Bilous into 11th.

6:54pm

France's Antoine Adelisse moves to eighth with a first run of 79.50.

That drops Bilous to 10th. Barclay is still seventh.

6:52pm

Canada's Max Moffatt lands an 83.00 with his first run, dropping Barclay to seventh and Bilous to ninth.

The top 12 advance remember, with the aggregate score of their best two runs.

6:50pm

Here's Barclay now.

He also lands a switch to switch, and he's stoked about it! And he should be - 81.00!

That moves Barclay into sixth, and drops Bilous down to eighth!

6:47pm

Finland's Simo Petola comes away with a 49.75, good enough for ninth at the moment.

Kiwi Ben Barclay is next.

6:46pm

Here's Bilous.

He lands a switch to switch, and gets five complete revolutions in. What will the judges think?

It's a 73.75. That puts Bilous in seventh place with two runs to come.

6:44pm

Switzerland's Kim Gubser can only manage a 15.25.

Finn Bilous is up next.

6:41pm

Sweden's Oliwer Magnusson is up seventh, and he moves to third with an 88.00.

We're three away from Finn Bilous, and five away from Ben Barclay.

6:39pm

Austria's Matej Svancer rounds out the top five with his first run, scoring 61.75.

The top five competitors are the world's top five ranked in big air, so don't expect these high scores right the way through!

6:37pm

Oh my word. Norway's Birk Ruud smashes them all. He jumps straight to the top of the standigns with a whopping 94.50.

That could be the highest score we see all day!

6:35pm

Switzerland's Andri Ragettli storms into the lead with his first run of 89.75.

6:33pm

USA's Alexander Hall is up first, and gets us rolling with an 87.00! Setting the bar high for the rest to follow.

Compatriot Colby Stevenson is up next, and comes away with an 83.75 for second place.

Huge start from the two Americans.

6:27pm

There are 31 competitors up in this event, with each rider's top two scores combining for a final mark that will determine if they're into tomorrow's final or not.

6:20pm

And we're back, and almost ready to get underway in the men's freeski big air qualifying.

Finn Bilous and Ben Barclay will ride 10th and 12th respectively, both targeting a top 12 finish for a place in the final.

We're about 10 minutes away from the start.

4:32pm

We're going to take a short break for a bit, but we'll be back later this evening for the men's freeski big air qualifying later tonight, before the second runs of the giant slalom.

NZ flagbearer Finn Bilous, and 19-year-old Ben Barclay will be competing in the big air, starting from 6:30pm.

Join us then!

4:29pm

A disappointing day for Margaux Hackett, but she's still got the freeski slopestyle to come at this Games, so by no means the end for the 22-year-old!

4:27pm

Here's Margaux Hackett for her third run in the freeski big air.

And this time she lands a switch rightside 900, and it gets her 65.00 - enough for 20th place at the moment.

4:16pm

We're now just waiting on Margaux Hackett's final run. It will only be for pride though, unable to reach tomorrow's final and medal contention.

4:08pm

Right, so the first run of the giant slalom has just wrapped up. A total of 61 of the 82 competitors managed to finish the course, with Robinson being one of them.

The top 30 will compete for the chance to medal, before the remaining 52 racers have their second run.

The second runs will begin at 7:30pm tonight.

4:04pm

Just a couple to go in the first run of the giant slalom. Alice Robinson is still in 25th place, but just shy of three seconds off the leader.

3:51pm

Robinson is still 25th, this time through 66 competitors.

3:49pm

Margaux Hackett steps up for her second run in the freeski big air. Currently sitting 25th.

But she can't land her first jump either, and loses a ski on her way down.

That's a score of just 9.00 from her second run, and ends her chances of advancing to tomorrow's final, with the best two jumps counting to the final score.

3:38pm

More and more are failing to finish in the giant slalom.

Robinson sits 25th of the 46 to have had their first run.

3:33pm

Robinson is now 25th of the 37 to have had their first runs in the giant slalom.

Margaux Hackett is readying for her second run in the freeski big air.

3:26pm

Robinson is 24th of 31, surely a matter of when and not if now, sadly.

3:22pm

We're into the second runs of the freeski big air qualifying. Margaux Hackett is 25th, needing to break the top 12.

3:16pm

Robinson is now 20th of 26. The top 30 advance to medal contention, so her hopes could be over soon with over 50 athletes still to have their first run.

3:08pm

More riders are crashing out in the giant slalom. Robinson is currently 17th of 22.

3:00pm

Back to the giant slalom, where Alice Robinson sits 15th through 18 competitors.

2:59pm

Hackett lines up for her first run, the first of three in qualification.

But she can't land her first jump, a score of 9.75 to sit last. France's Tess Ledeux leads the field with a score of 90.50.

The top 12 qualify for the final, with the 12th placed score currently at 40.25.

Still a long way to go though!

2:56pm

Moving away from the giant slalom, Margaux Hackett is about to get underway in the freeski big air.

2:52pm

So, Robinson is currently 12th of the 14 to have had their first runs.

That should be it for her chances at a medal, needing a lot of the riders still to come to finish below her if she's to advance for a second run later tonight.

2:46pm

Here's Alice Robinson.

And it's a shaky start, trailing by more than 1s after the first interval. That pushes out to 2s at the second.

She finishes with a first run time of 60.55s, currently in eighth place, but last of those to have finished.

2:43pm

Pyeongchang gold medallist Mikaela Shiffrin crashes out on her first run.

We're into the ninth rider, Robinson is next.

2:39pm

Sweden's Sara Hector takes top spot with a first run of 57.56s.

2:37pm

Italy's Marta Bassino, and she slips to slide right down the slope. Ouch.

No change to the lead after the fifth run, Robinson is up 10th remember.

2:35pm

Another run, another lead change. Italy's Federica Brignone now sits first.

2:33pm

Switzerland's Michelle Gisin takes top spot with her first run, a time of 59.19s.

2:31pm

Slovakia's Petra Vlhova goes first, with a time of 59.34s to, naturally, sit first.

2:27pm

Robinson starts 10th in the field of 82 competitors, so could face a bit of a wait to see how she stacks up. The top 30 will advance to compete for a medal.

Hackett meanwhile starts 18th in the freeski big air, looking to reach tomorrow's final.

2:15pm

Good afternoon! Fingers crossed for just as an exciting of a day as we had yesterday, starting with Alice Robinson and Margaux Hackett.

Both the freeski big air and giant slalom begin at 2:30pm, so we'll keep you updated throughout the afternoon.
