Wellington Phoenix have fought back to beat Western Sydney Wanderers 3-2 on Tuesday to claim the second win of their debut A-League Women campaign.

After falling behind in just the second minute, Kate Taylor drew the Phoenix level shortly before halftime.

In the 74th minute, Ava Pritchard gave Wellington the lead with a quality first-time strike, before fellow forward Grace Jale scored her fifth goal of the season in second-half stoppage time to secure the three points.

In the final seconds of the game, the Phoenix conceded an own goal to complete the scoring.

The result moves them level with the last-placed Wanderers with just one game of the season remaining, giving the newcomers a chance to avoid a last-placed finish.

"It probably wasn't our best performance, but I was glad we were able to get the points," Phoenix coach Gemma Lewis said afterwards.

"We probably conceded the last one because we were pushing for another one for the goal difference, but that just shows how hungry the girls are to get off the bottom of the table that when they're 3-1 up they were saying 'let's get another one'."

The match had been originally scheduled for Sunday at Commbank Stadium, until torrential rain in the area forced its postponement. The continuing poor weather in the area meant it was relocated to Wanderers Football Park just hours before kick off and couldn't be broadcast live.

"It was good to finally get the game underway to be honest," Lewis added. "There were a lot of postponements and a lot of things changing.

"The positive mentality from them is quite cool to see."

The Phoenix will take on fifth-placed Perth Glory in Wollongong on Friday in their final match of their maiden A-League Women season.
