Cricket World Cup: White Ferns carrying no scars from Australia defeat, assures captain Sophie Devine

Even after a humiliating 141-run defeat to Australia in their last Cricket World Cup encounter, White Ferns captain Sophie Devine assures the team aren't carrying any scars from the loss.

With four matches played, the White Ferns sit fourth on the World Cup table, with two wins and two losses to open their home tournament.

But Sunday's defeat to Australia has all but left the White Ferns needing to win their remaining three pool matches to have any hope of qualifying for the semi-finals, with the top four sides to advance to the knockouts.

Naturally, the manner of such a huge loss would impact the way sides prepare and respond in their next match - but with the White Ferns preparing to face South Africa in Hamilton on Thursday, Devine assures that the team have moved on and are focusses on what's coming next.

"It's certainly something, I think, as you get older, it gets easier to do," Devine says.

"If you hold on to games like that, it can certainly chew away at you. I think that comes down to the real support of the team as well.

"The support staff have been fantastic. Obviously you want to take key [lessons] out of losses like that, but you need to move forward as well. The more you dwell on it, the more energy it sucks out of you.

"As a group we've made a real focus to take what we can from that game and move forward."

Devine also says that her side are embracing the pressure of being World Cup hosts, even if another defeat could spell the end of any ambition of winning the tournament.

"We just finished up a couple of meetings this afternoon, and the girls are fizzed," Devine adds.

"This is sort of getting to the pointy end of the tournament now, and we know the situation that lays ahead of us.

"We know that we need to win, and that provides some challenges and some pressure. But also it's something that we want to step towards as a group.

"All our focus is on South Africa, because that's all we can control at the moment. South Africa is next, and what will be will be."
