Live coverage has concluded, please click here for the full wrap.

New Zealand 265/8 - Bates 126
Pakistan 194/9 - Rowe 5/55

6:25pm - NZ WIN BY 71 RUNS

So there it is then, the White Ferns have ended their World Cup campaign on a high, courtesy of Suzie Bates efforts with the bat, and a brilliant effort with the ball from Hannah Rowe.

Mathematically, the White Ferns can still advance if England and India both get thrashed tomorrow, but there's little chance of that happening, in all honesty.

That's that for our coverage today, thank you for joining us!

6:22pm - NZ WIN BY 71 RUNS

Right then, likely to be the final six balls of the tournament for the White Ferns. Satterthwaite comes back to bowl it. Nashra on strike.

Nashra uses her feet, misses and Martin whips the bails off to appeal for a stumping. We'll check upstairs, but Nashra looks like she's made her ground. Not out.

Short and wide, and Nashra cuts the next ball for four through point. Nashra gets off strike with a single to the fifth ball.

Anam will face the last ball of the innings, regardless. She swings across the line, and hits to midwicket for a single.

The White Ferns win by 71 runs.

PAK 194/9

Nashra works a single off her pads and gets a run to midwicket. Anam to face.

Anam defends to point and sets off for one, but a misfield from Mair spoils any chance of a run out. They run back for two.

Slower ball on the stumps, and Anam gets her bat on it, nearly chipping to short cover. She survives though.

Nashra to face, and she plays out the over.

PAK 176/9

5:55pm - 43 overs

Rowe to Nashra, can she get six?

She can! Full and straight, and hits Nashra on the toes and Rowe gets her lbw! Nashra reviews it, maybe a chance of missing leg, but the ball needs to be missing leg. And it is missing leg! Nashra survives.

Maiden over.

PAK 175/9

The White Ferns one wicket away, Kerr to bowl at Nashra.

Nashra gets a single into the leg side first ball of the over.

Diana gets off the mark next ball with a pull to fine leg for two. Diana then slog sweeps and gets four to midwicket! Diana's not wasting any time.

Huge appeal from Martin next ball! Given not out and Devine reviews. Diana has used her feet swung wildly, as Martin appeals for a catch. Nothing on ultra edge, so will stay not out, but why didn't Martin stump her? Not out stands, and the White Ferns are out of reviews.

PAK 171/7

5:36pm - 39 overs

Sattherthwaite to Bismah, you'd think Pakistan will look to accelerate soon.

Dropped! Dar uses her feet and looks to clear the ropes but gets none of it. Rowe runs in from the boundary, but the ball goes straight through her hands as the batters run back for two.

SIX! Rowe bangs one in short, and Muneeba hangs back and pulls it over square leg for six runs!

PAK 2/0

2:59pm

Right then, Jess Kerr has the ball for the White Ferns, Muneeba Ali takes strike for Pakistan.

Slip and a gully in place.

2:57pm

We're all ready to go for the second innings. Sophie Devine leads what should be the final huddle of the White Ferns' tournament.

They'll be wanting to put on a show for the Hagley Oval crowd.

2:48pm

The change of innings has seen a special presentation for the White Ferns' class of 2000, who famously won the Cricket World Cup at Lincoln's Bert Sutcliffe Oval.

2:44pm

Good afternoon, this is Alex Powell taking over from Stephen Foote for Pakistan's run chase.

Can the White Ferns defend 265 to finish their tournament on a high? We'll find out shortly, so stick about!

It was all about Suzie Bates today, whose magnificent knock of 126 set the platform for the White Ferns, in doing so becoming the first Kiwi to surpass 5000 runs in one-day international cricket.

The Ferns' late game struggles seemed they may come back to haunt them, as the run rate slowed late and wickets tumbled late.

But a handy cameo from Katey Martin in her final innings for New Zealand ensured a very worthy total.

Join us back here shortly for the Pakistan run chase.

50th over - Final over! Mackay scampers thorugh for a single to put Martin back on strike. Martin frees her arms and carves one square for two. Takes a knee and slams the next one obver to cow-corner for four, the crowd is loving this from the retiring wicketkeeper. Mackay follows suit, whips one for four more. No ball, free hit upcoming. Big swing and a miss but they run a bye.

Martin sweeps the final ball for to the boundary to end her final innings for New Zealand.

49th over - Mackay ramps one to fine leg, three runs. Make that two, one short. Sloppy stuff between the wickets. Martin dances down and blasts a much-needed lofted cover drive for four. Repats the dose the very next ball, action replay for four more. Martin scampers through for two to close a good over for NZ, 14 runs off it.

48th over - Fatima to the plate. It's suddenly very quiet at Hagley Oval. Fantastic death bowling here from Fatima, plenty of variation to keep the batters guessing. Two runs from the over.

47th over - OUT - Calamity of a run call results in Jess Kerr's departure.

Jess Kerr run out (Anam Amin) 6 (4b 1x4 0x6)

Surely NZ won't fail to bat out their 50 overs again, right? Not from that position. Another sketchy single, Rowe was gone if that had hit directly.

OUT - Uh oh. Rowe doesn't sllide her bat on a very tight single and she's well short. Second run out of the over, two wickets and two runs off it.

Hannah Rowe run out (Muneeba Ali/Sidra Nawaz) 1 (2b 0x4 0x6)

46th over - Fatima continues. Halliday cuts for four, times it to perfection. OUT - The very next ball Halliday is cramped up and her leg stump collected.

Brooke Halliday b Fatima Sana 29 (38b 3x4 0x6)

Kerr promoted up the order and is right into her work, cutting for four.

45th over - Nashra with some wily bowling here, cramping Martin up. Martin charges and throws a single-hander at it, ball lofts for two runs. Again, just three runs off the over. Pakistan will be more than happy with that.

44th over - Seamer Fatima back into the attack. Time to start looking for the rope here. Lovely slower ball beats Halliday. Over costs just three runs.

43rd over - Halliday continues to collect singles. Bates takes a knee and slams one over midwicket, well placed for four. OUT - That's the end of Bates' brilliant century, chopping one on to her stumps. She receives a resounding standing ovation as she leaves a packed Hagley Oval on an historic day for one of our greatest ever.

Suzie Bates b Nashra Sandhu 126 (135b 14x4 0x6)

The applause continues for Katey Martin, who comes to the crease for her final innings for New Zealand.

42nd over - Halliday whips Baig over square leg for a single. Really timing the ball nicely out there.

41st over - Run rate dipping a little here, NZ will need to address that quickly. In a great spot here, but their batting through the final 10 overs has let them down all tournament. Up comes the 200.

40th over - Seamer Diana Baig back into the attack. Does well to restrict NZ to just four.

39th over - Dar in for her final over. Three dots to start, before an overthrow costs her. Halliday takes a single from the final ball.

Excellent day from Dar, who finishes with 3/39 from her 10.

38th over - Anam continues. Halliday lofts another one over cover, slightly edgy but it has enough to reach the rope. Playing a great foil to Bates here, as NZ look to accelerate.

37th over - Dar again. Bates cuts for a single. Halliday advances and plays a pretty lofted off-drive for four, holding her pose at the end of her follow through. Love that.

36th over - Bates continues to feast on singles to long-on.

35th over - NZ have laid a great platform here, but when to start to launch? They'll be eyeing a score of 300-plus. Dar looking to add a fourth wicket here, she's been great today. Should've had a fourth there, Halliday top edges a sweep and bizarrely, nobody makes a move to take what should've been an easy catch.

34th over - Bates two runs shy of 100 here. HUNDRED - Bates pulls for four to raise a masterful century. Brilliant knock on a day she surpassed 5,000 ODI runs. Her fourth century at as many World Cups.

33rd over - Dar continues. Bates looking supremely comfrotbale as she moves to 98. OUT - Green dances down the wicket and is beaten by a well flighted delivery from Dar, collects the top of middle stump.

Maddy Green b Nida Dar 23 (48b 0x4 0x6)

32nd over - Bates has never been dismissed in the nineties. How about that? Sneaks a well-run single to move to 94. Green dropped! Too close to cut, thick edge to the wicketkeeper who puts down a relatively simple chance.

Bates pushes for two to close Fatima's over.

31st over - Bates cuts a wide one for a single. Green drives for two. Plenty of gaps for the Kiwis to work with, Pakistan content to concede singles. Fifty partnership up between these two.

30th over - Omaima again. Green drives deep for three. Six off the over.

29th over - NZ back in a rhythm, ticking over the singles. Four off the Nashra over.

28th over - Bates plays one along the deck for a single to long-off. Green puts her back on strike. Dabs a late cut to bring up 5000 international ODI runs! The first New Zealand woman to do so and just the fourth in women's cricket history. Warm round of applause at Hagley Oval. She's been in vintage form here today.

27th over - Bates now four runs shy of 5,000 international runs. Make that two runs.

26th over - Just two runs off Omaima's over

25th over - Dicey single taken by Green off Dar, Baig does well to make the stop but her throw to the keeper is poor, Bates would have been gone for all money.

24th over - Omaima continues, Green struggling to get her away. NZ losing some momentum here. Bates sweeps fine for four to break the shackles.

23rd over - Dar takes the ball again. Bates sneaks a well-run double through midwicket. Five from the over.

22nd over - Big shout for LBW and Green is given out! Quick consultation with Bates and she opts to review. She was quite far forward...and yes, Omaima's ball is clearly bouncing over the stumps. Not out.

The spinners have done a great job pulling back the flow of runs from NZ.

21st over - Dar continues after her double-wicket over. Bates rocks back and punches a backfoot drive through cover for four.

20th over - Spin from both ends now for Pakistan, as Omaima takes the ball. Green gets off the mark, two runs off the over.

19th over - OUT - Kerr sweeps in the air but doesn't get enough power on it, comfortable catch at deep midwicket. Needless shot given the situation.

Amelia Kerr c Sidra Ameen b Nida Dar 24 (31b 1x4 0x6)

OUT - Dar strikes again! Satterthwaite rushes her shot and lobs the easiest of catches to mid-on to depart for a golden duck. What an over for Pakistan.

Amy Satterthwaite c Sidra Ameen b Nida Dar 0 (1b 0x4 0x6)

18th over - NZ continue to work the gaps well, scoring off every delivery. Six off the over, run rate currently sits at 5.50.

17th over - Bates uses her feet and plays Dar to deep long-on for two. Repeats the dose for another single.

16th over - Spinner Nashra continues. Six runs off the over.

15th over - Dar up for her first of the day. Big crowd in at Hagley Oval today, taking advantage of those eased crowd restrictions.

14th over - FIFTY - Bates drives for her 10th boundary to bring up a superb half-century. You get the sense there are many more to come, she's looking in ominous form.

13th over - Bates continues her charge, driving Fatima straight past mid-on for four. No ball, free hit coming up for Bates. She skies one right down the throat of the fielder at midwicket.

12th over - Nashra takes the ball for her first over of spin. Maybe she can stem this tide of NZ runs. Kerr sweeps for her first boundary to backward square leg.

11th over - Looking back at Fatima's last over, Kerr was struck on her toe dead in front of her wickets but not a single Pakistan player appealed, ball tracker proves it would've been out. Got away with one there.

10th over - Bates pulls Anam for four, her fifth boundary. Dances down the pitch and drills one straight for four more.  Another short one from Anam gets the punishment from Bates. Big over for NZ, 12 runs from it.

9th over - Fatima continues. Beats Bates all ends up, striking her on her back pad. Ball clearly going down leg, but they've chosen to review this for a potential LBW. Not out, obviously. Bizarre use of a review there.

8th over - Anam putting the ball on a dime, keeping Kerr honest. Maiden over.

7th over - Fatima welcomed to the bowling crease by Bates with a flick through midwicket for four.

6th over - Anam takes the ball. Devine gives herself some room and hoists one over square leg, strikes the rope for six. OUT - What a response from Anam! Devine advanced and played all around it, beaten by the flight and she throws her head back as she watches her bails topple.

Sophie Devine b Anam Amin 12 (10b 1x4 1x6)

Kerr comes in and wastes no time, cutting for three.

5th over - Bates advances and smokes Baig through midwicket for four. Bates struck on her back pad looking to flick one square, big appeal. Umpire thinks for an age before rising his finger. Bates chooses to review... and it pays off. Always looked to be straying down leg.

4th over - Anam continues. Gets Devine driving aerially, chance falls short of the filder at mid-off. Good over for Pakistan, two from it.

3rd over - Beautiful straight drive from Bates for four. Positive start from these two so far, looking to take the game to their opponents. Bates glances to the fine leg boundary for four more.

2nd over - Anam to Devine. Powerfully struck sweep brings the first boundary of the game for NZ. Follows that with a quick single. Bates takes a knee, doesn't quite time the sweep but sneaks two.

1st over - Diana Baig takes the ball first for Pakistan. Bit of late swing there early for Baig. Well placed on drive brings two for Bates.

10:58am - Anthems completed, Devine and Bates stroll out to the middle - let's get into some cricket.

10:37am - Pakistan have won the toss and will bowl first.

Clear Autumn conditions in the Garden City today, so we should get a full day's cricket in.

Lea Tahuhu has been ruled out with a hamstring injury and will be replaced by Rosemary Mair in the NZ starting XI.

First ball is due at 11am.

White Ferns concede semi-final hopes are over, preparing for tournament swansong against Pakistan

By Alex Powell

Regardless of the result in Saturday's Cricket World Cup clash against Pakistan, the White Ferns accept their home tournament run is over.

Losses to the West IndiesAustraliaSouth Africa and England have left New Zealand needing a string of possible, yet highly improbable results, if they're to reach the tournament semi-finals, with their pool game at Hagley Oval almost certainly the last of their campaign.

New Zealand will take the field at Christchurch with the backing of a crowd unhampered by COVID-19 restrictions, giving the Ferns a chance to finish on a high in front of their families, friends and supporters.

But their swansong comes much earlier than they'd have wanted and they will watch the knockouts as spectators, rather than competitors.

Fast bowler Lea Tahuhu will sit out of the clash with a hamstring injury, while captain Sophie Devine hopes to turn out, after injuring her back in last week's defeat to England.

Even though the White Ferns can still mathematically qualify for the final four, the team have accepted they've lost their chance at a first World Cup win since 2000.

"I think we've got to be realistic about it," Devine says. "I don't know the exact numbers, but we do know this is likely our final game here and that's how we want to play it.

"Bob [Carter] mentioned at training earlier today that tomorrow will be our final.

"It's not the final that we thought we would be playing in, but we've got so much passion and pride that we want to make sure we go out tomorrow and really put on a performance that we're certainly proud of, but also all our friends and family and the rest of New Zealand are really proud of as well."

While the White Ferns' losses make for upsetting reading to Kiwi supporters, neutrals can enjoy that New Zealand's defeats have predominantly been as a result of thrilling, entertaining cricket.

The losses to West Indies and South Africa both came in the final over of their respective matches, while last week's defeat to England was also a low-scoring thriller.

Putting her individual disappointment aside, Devine insists the tournament has been the perfect advertisement for the women's game.

"It's a really hard one to reflect on at the moment, it's still pretty raw" she says. "We've got a game tomorrow and all our energy is focussed on that.

"But for me, so far, I think the tournament's been fantastic. Honestly, this has probably been one of the most competitive, high-scoring competitions that I've been involved in and I've been around for a while.

"The way that teams have batted, in particular, has been outstanding. A lot of credit has to go to the groundstaff and what's been prepared in New Zealand, which I'm very proud of.

"I just think it's been fantastic. To see scores of 250 plus, 300 at the start of the tournament, with Australia and England, shows the growth of the women's game. When we get put on great cricket wickets, you get fantastic results.

"I'm extremely proud of my team and all the other teams here, but also the work that's gone in behind this tournament, because it's been a long run.

"I'm very thankful and grateful for everyone that's done their part to make this tournament possible."
