SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 198 RUNS

3:46pm

All over then. Congratulations to South Africa, they've dominated from the opening day, and deserve this series levelling victory.

The series is squared at 1-1, with no decider to come.

Thank you for joining us over the last five days - and for the home test summer too!

Until next time!

3:43pm - SOUTH AFRICA WIN BY 198 RUNS

Maharaj to Henry from the other end after tea. Henry currently zero from 18.

Lbw appeal as Henry pads up, not out the decison and South Africa are out of reviews.

WICKET! Gets him lbw this time! Straighter from Maharaj and he hits the pads again. The umpire gives it out, and Henry reviews. This is plumb, unless he's hit it - and he hasn't.

That's that. South Africa win by 198 runs.

3:40pm - 93 overs

Rabada to Wagner, around the wicket.

And Rabada completes a maiden either side of tea.

NZ 227/9

And we're back. The rain has stopped. The covers have come off, and the players are back out on the field.

Rabada will resume to Wagner, with four balls to come in this over.

3:20pm - TEA

Tea has also been taken.

There's hope that the rain will clear as quickly as possible - but please, everyone reading this, do some kind of rain dance.

We'll be back as soon as we have any developments.

3:17pm - RAIN STOPS PLAY

Rabada changes ends, and comes around the wicket to Wagner. Rain is starting to fall.

The groundstaff are ready to come on... The umpires are coming together - the rain is getting heavier!

And they're going off!

South Africa are unmoved, they don't want to leave - but Henry and Wagner walk off.

3:15pm - 92 overs

Bowling change, Maharaj replaces Rabada. Bowling to Henry, still yet to get off the mark.

Henry plays out another maiden.

Wagner wears a bouncer, but sees out the over.

NZ 227/9

3:08pm - 90 overs

Rabada to Wagner again, around the wicket this time.

Appeal for caught behind as Wagner ducks under a bouncer. Not out the call, and Elgar reviews it. Replays show no bat, again. That was South Africa's last review, but it probably won't hurt them too much.

Wagner drives through cover for a single to end the over.

NZ 227/9

Wagner turns a short ball behind square for a single to start the over. That takes NZ to 213 - halfway to the target...

Southee faces. He bunts a ball straight back past the bowler and runs back for two.

Southee gets a single down to fine leg to give Wagner two balls in the over to see off.

Appeal for caught behind as Jansen bounces one across Wagner. The umpire's unmoved, and South Africa review. Replays look like it's come off the glove. There's no noise on ultra edge though, so the original decision stands.

And that's drinks.

NZ 216/8

Short again, and Jamieson swings and gets a top edge over slip for four to bring up NZ's 200.

WICKET! Jamieson's stay ends. Another bouncer, and this time Jamieson pulls very high in the air. Rabada makes good ground deep on the leg side boundary, and hangs on to the catch. Jamieson's out for 12. Neil Wagner is in at No.10.

Southee will face after the batters crossed. He plays out the over.

NZ 188/7

1:59pm - 74 overs

Maharaj to de Grandhomme.

De Grandhomme gets off strike with a drive to mid-off.

1:41pm

We're back for the second session.

The new ball is 10 overs away, but if this pair can get past that mark, then batting will get easier.

1:03pm - LUNCH

Probably - and say this very quietly - New Zealand's session.

Conway and Blundell have eaten up valuable time in this test, batting through most of the morning.

But South Africa got the wicket they'd have targeted, Conway, and have left a lot of work for the lower order to do.

New Zealand will have to survive around 60 more overs over the next two sessions if they're to save this game.

We'll be back in around 40 minutes for the afternoon session.

Conway to face Sipamla, fresh from his wake up call in the last over. Around the wicket.

WICKET! Conway's given out lbw first ball of the over! He misses a yorker and is hit on the boot, but Conway reviews. Is it missing leg stump? No bat involved. Is it missing the stumps, nope it's hitting leg. South Africa break through.

10:31am

Good morning! Welcome to Newshub's live coverage of day five of the second test between the Blackcaps and South Africa.

We're about half an hour from the resumption, with the Blackcaps looking to save a series win.

South Africa meanwhile need just six wickets to keep their unbeaten record over New Zealand intact.

Don't go anywhere, we'll bring you all the action!

*******

What a difference a week makes.

This time last week, the Blackcaps had just completed an unscheduled second day off, after winning their series-opener against South Africa inside three days at Hagley Oval. Skip forward to today and they're fighting just to save a draw in the hope of taking this series 1-0.

New Zealand still need another 332 runs for victory and resume at 94/4, with any intention of pushing for a win now almost certainly off the cards.

A win would take the Blackcaps to world No.1 status in test cricket, but a draw would at least give New Zealand their first series victory over South Africa, not to mention four World Test Championship points.

Ironically, Kiwi hopes are resting firmly on the shoulders of South Africa-born Devon Conway, not out with 60 of New Zealand's 94 runs, who must face most of the 90 remaining overs to save this test.

He's joined by Tom Blundell at hte start of play, but the Blackcaps lower order will almost certainly be called on to help save this game.

The pitch doesn't appear to have any real demons in it, but spinner Keshav Maharaj and seamer Kagiso Rabada have already taken the first four Kiwi wickets, and are a threat in any conditions.

Join us at 11am, as play begins on the final day at Christchurch.

South Africa 364 (Erwee 108, Wagner 4/102) & 354/9d (Verreynne 136 not out, Wagner, Jamieson & Henry 2/81) New Zealand 293 (de Grandhomme 120 not out, Rabada 5/60) & 94/4 (Conway 60 not out, Rabada 2/17)

South Africa lead by 331 runs
