Snow Sports: Kiwi snowboarder Tiarn Collins creates history with World Cup slopestyle crown

Snowboarder Tiarn Collins has secured another slice of snow sport history, becoming the first Kiwi to capture the World Cup Crystal Globe as overall slopestyle champion.

The NZ Winter Olympian finished seventh in the season finale at Silvaplana, Switzerland, but was consistent enough over the rest of the series to secure the crown, with nearest rival Leon Vockensperger of Germany sidelined through injury.

"It's pretty cool," says Collins, 22. "It's not something that's really on your mind at the start of the season, but once you start getting towards the end, it kind of creeps into your mind.

"It feels good, I'm stoked. It was a sick season."

Collins took out the penultimate round at Spindleruv Mlyn, Czech Republic last week - the second World Cup victory of his career - and finished third at Mammoth Mountain in California in January.
