Boxing: Junior Fa to return to ring to face Australian Lucas Browne as part of Kiwi-laden undercard for Kambosos-Harvey bout

Junior Fa will return to the ring next month to face Australian Lucas Browne on June 5 at Melbourne.

As first revealed by Newshub in February, Fa will fight on the undercard of the world lightweight unification bout between Australian George Kambosos Jr and American Devin Harvey.

Fa, 32, has not fought since losing to fellow Kiwi Joseph Parker at the start of 2021, taking his professional record to 19-1 from 20 fights.

Browne is 30-3 as a professional, with 26 of his victories by knockout, but his recent record is blemished by his knockout loss to former NRL star Paul Gallen at Wollongong in April 2021.

"I 100 percent back myself, but I'm not taking Lucas lightly, as he is a former world champ and was stopped by Gallen with some illegal blows, so I don't count that as a loss for him," Fa said.

"He has his power and we saw him use it to KO his last opponent. I'll be getting the best Lucas Browne for this fight, as I'm in the way of him being a contender again.

"It's a huge opportunity for him and it's going to be a tough fight."

Fa won't be the only Kiwi fighting on the night. Fellow Kiwi heavyweight Hemi Aho will square off against American Joe Jones over eight rounds.

Aho, 31, boasts a pro record of 18-0, with 13 knockouts. Jones is 13-4.

Double Commonwealth Games gold medallist and Tokyo Olympics bronze winner David Nyika has also booked his third professional fight on the undercard.

The 26-year-old's opponent is yet to be confirmed, with the Hamilton native returning downunder, after training alongside Parker and world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury at Morecambe.

In his short professional career, Nyika has achieved two victories from two fights, both first-round stoppages.

On professional debut last February, Nyika needed just 29 seconds to earn a knockout victory against Jesse Maio, before retiring Anthony Carpin after the first round at Manchester last December.
