Boxing: Kiwi David Nyika pines for bright lights of Kambosos-Haney undercard at Melbourne

After two professional fights and months of learning from the world's best boxers, David Nyika's ready to rumble again, in a fight he hopes will help launch his career.

As he says himself: "I'm looking forward to being the star of the show."

Along with fellow countrymen Junior Fa and Hemi Ahio, Nyika will fight on the undercard, when Australian George Kambosos defends his lightweight world titles against Devin Haney at Melbourne next month.

Although an opponent's yet to be finalised, Nyika can't wait to get back in the ring and put what he's learnt from, among others, Tyson Fury and Joseph Parker into practice.

"I've learnt so much over the last six months," Nyika told Newshub. "Those experiences aren't going to go to waste.

"Nobody on the planet is getting better sparring than I have over the last six months. For me, I can draw so much from those experiences.

"At the same time, I know the players now, I know who's out there and they know that I'm here. Now I can finally get busy again and get active."

After helping the likes of Fury and Parker prepare for their last fights, Nyika's now ready to focus on himself for a while, recently leaving his UK base for Australia to prepare for his next battle.

"I've been a gun for hire for different guys, and I've been in camp and doing other people's training. This camp has been going back to what I need out of myself.

"It's been really good so far and I'm settling in really well. Having my family here for the week has taken a lot of stress off as well."

Becoming active is now essential for Nyika, who will also bid for a third successive Commonwealth Games gold medal later this year.

To climb the cruiserweight ranks, he needs professional bouts and he hopes for tougher tests than his previous two fights, which he won hardly breaking a sweat.

"With my last two fights, both the guys gave up within the first three minutes. I'm looking to find someone a little bit tougher, someone that's going to take me at least a few rounds.

"I know I need to stay active, I need to stay relevant. This is the entertainment business, and I need to put my best foot forward and give the people what they want to see, which is violence, which is entertainment, fireworks.

"I know im very capable of doing that."

There's hardly a better fight night on the horizon to put his name in lights, with more than 50,000 people expected to pack Marvel Stadium for the Kambosos clash.

"I live for that. That's one of the funnest part of the whole event - I'm looking forward to being the star for a second.

"There's some massive talent on the card, but this is the David Nyika Show and I'm going to give people what they want to see.

"I'm really looking forward to being the star of the show."
