Squash: Kiwi Paul Coll breezes into quarter-finals of World Championships with 38 minute victory

Kiwi Paul Coll has reached the quarter-finals of the Squash World Championships in Cairo, defeating local hero Mazen Hesham in the third round.

It took 30-year-old Coll just 38 minutes to advance to the quarter-finals, winning 11-5, 11-0, 11-6 for a straight sets triumph, taking his record against Hesham to 4-0.

Coll's only concern came in the third game when he needed treatment from his physiotherapist for a cut on his knee.

"I'm very happy to get off in three," Coll said afterwards. "Mazen can make you do an unbelievable amount of work and some big lunges, and it can be really damaging on your body.

"But I managed to close it down today, I felt like I was seeing it better and it's nice to get on this court, it's a very true court and very nice to play on, so I'm happy with tonight's performance.

"It [his knee] is fine, I didn't even know I had done it. It's a brand-new floor, so it's nice and grippy and it's got a bit of grit on the surface, so I think there could be a lot of that this week if you lunge and scrape your knee, it will take a bit of skin off but no dramas."

The Greymouth-native will wait and see who his opponent for Friday's quarter-final will be, with one of sixth seed Tarek Momen of Egypt, or Wales' Joel Makin to meet Coll in the next round.

In the women's draw, Kiwi Joelle King didn't fare as well, beaten 7-11, 13-15, 11-8, 6-11 by Egypt's Nada Abbas, and missing the chance to join her compatriot in the quarter-finals.
