Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko has fought her way back into contention at the Meijer LPGA Classic at Michigan with a sizzling third round.

Starting the day tied for 17th and eight shots off the lead, Ko fired a clinical seven-under par 65 to climb into a share of fifth - five shots adrift of American leader Nelly Korda.

Her third-round score was best equal on the day, shared with three other players, improving on her opening-round 70 and second-round 68.

The world No.4 began her round in ominous fashion with a birdie - the first of seven, including four through the final seven holes.

Ko is now 13-under overall, tied with Australia's Minjee Lee, as she looks to secure her 100th top-10 finish on the LPGA Tour in Monday's final round.

The 25-year-old has been in resurgent form this year, recording four top-10 finishes and one title win.
