The NZ Warriors and coach Nathan Brown have reportedly parted ways after an emergency meeting was held at the club.

7 News league's Michelle Bishop is reporting that Brown has stepped down from his role, with assisant and club legend, Stacey Jones expected to takeover as interim coach for the remainder of the 2022 NRL season.

Earlier, The Sydney Morning Herald are reported that Brown informed the club he could not commit to moving to Auckland.

The Warriors are due back in New Zealand in two weeks' time after playing the past couple of seasons in Australia because of COVID-19 restrictions.

The Auckland-based club trained out of the Central Coast last year before relocating to Redcliffe in Queensland for 2022.

Sources close to the Herald reveal Brown has told the club he can't base himself in Auckland permanently because of personal reasons.

Brown has come under-fire of late for the Warriors poor performances this season, after they slumped to their fifth consecutive loss to the Many Sea Eagles on Saturday.

The club find themselves 14th on the ladder, with only the Gold Coast Titans and Canterbury Bulldogs below them with less points.

Brown was visibly upset after the Manly loss, and offered no excuses for another bitterly disappointing defeat.

"Our first half was horrible, you can't hide from that. In the post-match press conference, you can't offer any excuses," he said at the post-match press conference.

"As a coach, the start of the game is really important. You're supposed to prepare your team to start well and I've got to take a fair hit there.

"Our last two performances we've lost where we've played some footy, we let ourselves down with some fundamentals but we certainly didn't let ourselves down with intent early in the game.

"We let ourselves down with intent today which is extremely disappointing.

Brown did admit the past two seasons have taken its toll on the club and its players, but refused to let that be an excuse.

"The club has had a lot of difficult times, there's no doubt about that but we can't put today's performances down to that.

"We've gone through more than anyone, we can't hide from that but we actually prepared really well. [In] the last three weeks of training we've made some good growth in some areas.

"What we did today, we can't lump that with being away from home."
