A poor finish has seen Kiwi Lydia Ko lose ground on the leaders at the LPGA's Evian Championship, sitting seven shots off the pace at the end of her second round.

After a first-round 66 to sit in a share of fifth on the opening day of the LPGA's penultimate Major of 2022, Ko carded a two-under 69 in her second round - dropping into a five-way tie for 11th at Evian-les-Bains.

Beginning her second round at five-under, Ko started brightly with a birdie on the first hole and added two more on the sixth and ninth holes, to sit at eight-under after a blemish-free front nine.

Two more birdies on the 10th and 12th holes had the Kiwi in sight of the top three at 10-under, before Ko came unstuck.

A bogey on the 14th was cancelled out by another birdie on the 15th, only for a disastrous 16th to drop the Kiwi further down the leaderboard.

Ko's tee shot at the 16th flew wide of the green and hit a baggage cart to end up in the rough.

It took Ko two shots to eventually find the green but the 25-year-old couldn't sink her bogey putt and settled for a double bogey on par three.

And if that wasn't bad enough, Ko also ended her second round with a bogey on the 18th - dropping to seven-under for the tournament.

While Ko was comfortably clear of the even-par cut line, she trails leader Brooke Henderson by seven shots with two rounds left to play.

Ko is tied with Japan's Nas Hatoka and Ayaka Furue, South Korea's Jin Young Ko and England's Charley Hull in 11th place.

The Evian Championship was Ko's first Major victory, winning back in 2015, but will need a marked improvement in the coming days if she is to win it for a second time.
