Cricket: Mark Chapman blasts century, as Blackcaps batter Scotland in ODI at Edinburgh

A 75-ball century from Mark Chapman has propelled the Blackcaps to a comprehensive victory over Scotland in their one-day international clash at Edinburgh.

Batting at five, Chapman struck 13 boundaries, including seven sixes as New Zealand made light work of the 307-run target, to win by seven wickets.

Scotland looked set to post a modest total, but for powerful batting from all-rounder Michael Leask, who hit 85 runs off just 55 balls.

Bowlers Jacob Duffy (3/52) and Michael Bracwell (3/43) both chipped in with three wickets, but the Blackcaps seamers were guilty of being too expensive.

Duffy, Lockie Ferguson and Blair Tickner all went for more than six an over, as Scotland surged to a respectable 306 before being bowled out.

Scotland's wicket-keeper Matthew Cross made a steady 53, while bowlers Mark Watt (31) and Safyaan Sharif (28) supported Leask well with the bat.

Blackcaps openers Finn Allen and Martin Guptill got New Zealand's chase off to a strong start, making 50 and 47 respectively.

Scotland looked to have maybe turned the tide after claiming wicket-keeper Dane Cleaver's wicket, to have New Zealand 132/3 after 24 overs.

But that only brought Chapman to the crease, who immediately took a liking to the Scottish bowlers, racing to a quick-fire century.

All-rounder Daryl Mitchell continued his fine form with the bat in support, blasting 74 runs off just 62 balls, which included nine boundaries.

Chapman took New Zealand home with more than five overs to spare, as the Blackaps registered a comfortable win in their only one-day international against Scotland.

"I thought we kind of let them get away a little bit through the middle there after getting them five down reasonably early," Blackcaps captain Mitchell Santner said.

"I think we're, we're outstanding, and then we kind of let it slip a little bit but, [Michael] Leask and [Matthew] Cross played extremely well.

"It's obviously a tough ground to defend, but I just think we kind of went away from what was working. On the flip side, 300 was pretty par on that and on that ground."

The Blackcaps will play the Netherlands next on Friday, in one of two T20s, before they travel to the Caribbean to play the West Indies.
