All Blacks v Argentina: All Blacks backing Beauden Barrett, Brodie Retallick's firepower for Rugby Championship rematch

Despite no changes to the starting XV to face Argentina in Hamilton on Saturday, the All Blacks are backing firepower off the bench to turn their fortunes against the Pumas around.

Following last week's 25-18 defeat in Christchurch, coach Ian Foster surprised by keeping the faith with the same team that threw away a halftime lead, backing his side to learn from their mistakes.

On the bench though, Foster has had the luxury of bringing back the likes of Beauden Barrett, Dane Coles, Brodie Retallick and Dalton Papali'i, with the hope of seeing the All Blacks over the line.

In total, Barrett, Retallick and Coles bring nearly 300 caps worth of experience to the All Blacks' bench alone, as a boost to a starting side the All Blacks describe as rebuilding.

Speaking after Friday's captain's run, defence coach Scott McLeod detailed the boost the return of such senior figures brings to the All Blacks on Saturday.

"They were pretty annoyed with what they missed last week," McLeod said.

"What I am excited about is we've got some leaders on the bench, some fresh leaders, coming in.

"They've given the group a good nudge this week, in terms of expectations. No doubt they'll be raring to get off the bench.

"Guys like Guzzler [Retallick], Beaudy [Barrett], Dalton and Dane. [I'm] looking forward to those contributions."

Meanwhile, the All Blacks are refusing to panic over the state of their Rugby Championship defence.

At the halfway point of the competition, the All Blacks sit third behind leaders Argentina and Australia, with one victory and two defeats so far.

Another defeat on Saturday would be another hammer blow to the All Blacks' title chances, unless South Africa can do New Zealand a favour against Australia and Argentina in the coming weeks.

For McLeod though, the All Blacks can't allow their focus to shift past Saturday night, taking things one game at a time.

"[It's] just a game we have to get right in terms of our performance.

"We don't focus on that at all. If we get that right, the Championship takes care of itself."
