Boxing: Kiwi Joseph Parker believes speed key to beating unbeaten Brit Joe Joyce for WBO interim world heavyweight title

Kiwi Joseph Parker believes his speed will be too much for "lump" Joe Joyce in their WBO interim heavyweight world championship bout at Manchester on Sunday (NZT).

Parker has begun his final preparations before the showdown at AO Arena, with his base moving from Morecambe to Manchester at the start of the week.

The 30-year-old is coming off back-to-back wins over Derek Chisora, since linking with new coach Andy Lee, and training partner and close friend, WBC champion Tyson Fury.

Parker made no secret where he thinks the fight will be won against his newest opponent and isn't daunted by the task of being the first to beat the unbeaten Joyce.

"I think I'm going to be too fast, I'm going to be too quick, I'm going to have better movement than he does," he said. "Of course, he's got this jab, and he comes forward and has a good engine, but I've prepared for that and I've brought in some great sparring partners to prepare for what he brings.

"Going into this fight, I am fully focused and confident that I can get the job done. There's no doubt, there's no worries, because I've done the work, so when the fight comes, this lump is going to get a lump on his head.

"Joe Joyce has had a great amateur background, he's undefeated as a fighter, he's only been taken the distance once. He's got this confidence, the unbeaten record and he's got that confidence going into this fight.

"He's got a good engine, takes a good shot and he throws a lot of punches, but I know how to beat him, and I'm going to be the first to beat him and give him his first loss. That's okay, he can come back from that and I'll beat him again in December."

Parker expects a much better version of himself to be unleashed on Sunday and believes his permanent relocation to the UK is already paying dividends.

"I think you're going to see a more improved Joseph Parker in the ring, because the first camp was just an introduction with Andy Lee, learning a different style, trying new things.

"The second camp was a better camp, we added onto that and we saw the improvement in the second Chisora fight.

"This camp, there's a lot more that we added to my weapons and when I go into this fight, I know that I can take care of business and beat this guy up."
