Boxing: Kiwi cruiserweight boxer David Nyika overcomes nasty cut to deliver brutal knockout of Titi Motusaga

Kiwi cruiserweight boxer David Nyika has overcome a nasty cut to deliver a devastating knockout of compatriot Titi Motusaga at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena.

Fighting on the Devin Haney v George Kambosos 2 undercard, Nyika needed just two rounds to take out his opponent with a huge overhand right.

The two-time Commonwealth Games champion and Olympic bronze medallist was a strong favourite heading into the bout, but it didn't all go his own way.

Nyika was bleeding profusely on the right side of his face, after seemingly suffering a cut below his eye in the second round, but that only seemed to spur Nyika on, as he noticeably put more aggression into his punches, before executing the telling blow to stay unbeaten as a pro.

The towering Kiwi set up an overhand right with a left leading jab, with Motusaga unable to recover and beat the referee's count.

Meanwhile, fellow Kiwi and highly touted heavyweight Hemi Ahio suffered his first career loss, falling to 19-1, after a technical knockout loss to Australian Faiga Opelu.

Neither fighter gave much space, staying inside the pocket and trading heavy blows, but the Aussie got the better of those exchanges, with Ahio guilty of being too sloppy and walking into big shots.

Ahio was forced onto the ropes early in the fourth round and offered little in return, leading the referee to jump in and stop the fight.
