Cricket: White Ferns bounce back to claim low-scoring second Twenty20 against West Indies

The White Ferns have snuck past the West Indies to claim honours in a low-scoring second Twenty20 international at Antigua on Sunday (NZ time)

After falling agonisingly short by a single run in Thursday's opening match, this time the New Zealanders were on the right side of the ledger.

Chasing the West Indies total of 107/5, the visitors entered the final over requiring seven runs to win, which Georgia Plimmer and Lauren Down calmly ticked off with a ball to spare to seal a six-wicket win.

The Ferns won the toss and sent West Indies into bat, then immediately found their length, ensuring runs were difficult to come by.

Hayley Jensen lead the wicket-takers with three wickets at the cost of just 24 runs - including the scalp of the dangerous Kyshona Knight (42 runs) - Eden Carson impressed with a miserly spell of 2/12 from her four alloted overs.

The White Ferns' found the going equally tough when they took the bat to pursuit of their target, with captain Sophie Devine (8) departing in the 10th over with just 37 runs total on the board.

But the outstanding Suzie Bates ensured the White Ferns stayed on track, anchoring the chase with a superb 54 off 61 balls.

Amelia Kerr (21) joined her at the crease in a 52-run second wicket stand, which came to an end when Bates was bowled by Shakera Selman in the 17th over.

Kerr and Maddy Green departed the next over, leaving the Ferns needing 17 off the final two overs.

Plimmer (7no) and Down (9no) reeled off 10 of those in the penultimate over, before sealing the deal in the final over.

The result levels the series score at one win apiece, with the third of the five game series to be played Monday morning.

White Ferns 108/4 (Bates 54, A Kerr 21, Fraser 1/13) West Indies 107/5 (Knight 42, Jensen 3/24, Carson 2/12)
