Golf: Lydia Ko makes solid start to LPGA's BMW Ladies Championship in South Korea

Lydia Ko has made a solid start to the LPGA's BMW Ladies Championship, sitting tied for sixth after the first round in Wonju-si, South Korea.

The Kiwi shot a six-under 68 in her first round, sitting in a three-way tie for sixth place alongside American pair Lilia Vu and Alison Lee.

Beginning on the front nine, Ko started brightly with two birdies on the first and second holes. A bogey on the third slowed her charge, only to bounce back with another birdie on the fourth.

One final bogey for the round saw Ko finish her front nine holes at one-under, before going blemish-free on the back nine.

Ko then made birdie on the 11th, 14th and 17th holes for a three-under back nine, completing her first round at four-under.

She trails leader Atthaya Thitikul by five shots heading into the second round, while local amateur Minsol Kim is just one shot back at eight-under.

The trio of American Andrea Lee and South Koreans Yaeeun Hong and A Lim Kim all sit at six-under in a tie for third, two shots ahead of Ko.
