Motorsport: Kiwi Formula Two driver Marcus Armstrong vying to join Scott Dixon, Scott McLaughlin at IndyCar

IndyCar drivers Scott Dixon and Scott McLaughlin could be joined by a third flying Kiwi next season.

Formula Two driver Marcus Armstrong tested with Dale Coyne Racing and feels he made the most of his opportunity.

But next year he hopes to take his talent stateside by joining Dixon and McLaughlin in IndyCar.

"I've been a fan of IndyCar since I was a kid basically," Armstrong told Newshub. "I watched Scott Dixon kick ass since I was about three years old."

Last month he got his first taste of IndyCar, testing for Dayle Coyne Racing - one of two teams with a seat still available next year.

"From a performance point of view it was really good," Armstrong said. "I felt like as soon as I jumped in the car I felt very comfortable."

If he's able to secure a drive, it could see him go to another level. Armstrong said the differences from IndyCar to Formula Two should suit his driving style.

IndyCar has less importance on saving tyres, and more emphasis on pushing the limits.

"It reminds me of karting," Armstrong said. "Wheel-to-wheel racing, you do bump and the cars are like tanks. Essentially you can actually touch each other and not have damage on the car."

While he waits to find out if he has a seat in 2023, Armstrong's focus for now is on the final round of the F2 Championship in Abu Dhabi later this month.

"I almost won the race there last year, so I've got unfinished business there, it's gonna be a good weekend," he said.

Before he looks to trade the F2 Podium for spraying champagne with fellow Kiwis in the United States.
