Softball World Cup: Black Sox unveil stirring new haka before opener against Czech Republic at Auckland

The Black Sox have unveiled a stirring new haka before their Softball World Cup opener against Czech Republic at Auckland's Rosedale Park.

New Zealand is hosting the tournament for the first time since 2013, setting the stage for the ideal opportunity to debut the challenge.

After previously using Ngāti Toa's Ka Mate - made famous by the All Blacks - New Zealand's softball team decided it was time for a fresh approach.

The Black Sox performed their new haka before their first game of the World Cup against the fifth-ranked Czechs, with Kiwi fans in attendance voicing their appreciation.

The new challenge was introduced to pay homage to their history - winning the world title on seven occasions - but also to show in a new era, after a disappointing last campaign.

The Black Sox finished fourth at the Czech-hosted World Cup three years ago, beaten by Japan in the semi-finals.

New Zealand will play the US on Sunday, before matches against Argentina, the Philippines and Cuba to close out the opening round of Group A.
