Football World Cup: Second journalist dies covering tournament in Qatar

A second journalist has died at the Football World Cup in Qatar.

After the sudden death of American journalist Grant Wahl, Qatari photojournalist Khalid al-Misslam has also died covering the tournament.

"Al-Misslam, a Qatari, died suddenly while covering the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022," the Qatari Times reported.

"We believe in Allah's mercy and forgiveness for him, and send our deepest condolences to his family."

Al-Misslam was working for new channel Al Kass TV at the time of his death, with no details made public yet.

The news comes after Saturday saw the death of Wahl, 48, who collapsed, while covering Argentina's quarter-final victory over the Netherlands and died later in hospital.

Wahl made headlines earlier in the tournament, when he was detained during the group stage for wearing a rainbow shirt into the USA's clash against Wales.

Brother Eric suggests foulplay was involved in Wahl's death.

"I do not believe my brother just died," Eric Wahl said on social media. "I believe he was killed and I just beg for any help."
