Cricket: Blackcaps bowler Trent Boult dismisses Indian superstar Virat Kohli first ball, Devon Conway stays hot with bat

Blackcaps speedster Trent Boult has captured the prized scalp of Indian superstar Virat Kohli with the first ball of the innings, but could not inspire his Rajasthan Royals to victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League.

Boult, 33, had never dismissed his rival before, but was on target with his opening delivery to trap Kohli leg before wicket for a 'royal duck' and his 100th IPL wicket.

While the early strike had Royal Challengers immediately on the backfoot, they recovered through the batting heroics of Aussie Glenn Maxwell (77 runs off 44 balls) and South African Faf du Plessis (62 off 39) to post 189/9 in their 20 overs.

Boult's figures took a hammering, as he returned 2/41 off his four overs, dismissing Shahbaz Ahmed to have RCB 12/2 in the third over. He has made a habit of taking wickets in his first over - Kohli was his sixth so far this season.

In response, Rajasthan finished seven runs short, with England star Jos Buttler falling for a duck in the first over.

Meanwhile, Blackcaps batter Devon Conway brought up his fourth consecutive half-century to help Chennai Super Kings to a 49-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders.

Conway has scored 56 off 40 balls - including three sixes - one of three Super Kings batters to reach fifty, as they amassed 235/4 off their 20 overs. Knight Riders fell could only muster 186/8, with Conway also taking a catch off the bowling of Sri Lankan Maheesh Theekshana to dismiss Umesh Yadav.

Chennai sits atop the IPL table, with Conway second among the competition's top runscorers, behind only du Plessis.
