NZ cyclist Finn Fisher-Black has scored his first pro win, after the UAE Team Emirates rider triumphed in the opening stage of the Tour of Sicily.
Fisher-Black rode away from the field on the final climb of the 159km stage to take the win, with teammate and fellow Nelsonian George Bennett ninth.
"My job was to pull into the bottom of the climb, but I looked back at one point and no-one was there," Fisher-Black said. "The DS [Team Sporting Director] on the radio just told me to go as hard as I could.
"I didn't believe I could win, until I saw the line. It's a really important win for me.
"I broke my leg last year and coming back has been the hardest thing I've done, but this moment makes it all worth it."
With his success on the stage, Fisher-Black was awarded with four jerseys - the leader of the general classification, as well as points, King of the Mountain and young riders classification.
The 21-year-old joined UAE Team Emirates in 2021.
