NRL: Melbourne Storm, Kiwis star Nelson Asofa-Solomona rejects rugby, Wallabies switch

Melbourne Storm star Nelson Asofa-Solomona has rejected an offer from Rugby Australia, after signing a four-year extension with the NRL club.

Asofa-Solomona was the target of Wallabies coach Eddie Jones, but he has instead ended speculation over a potential code switch.

His re-commitment comes after he inspired a Storm comeback from the bench in their victory over the NZ Warriors on Anzac Day.

The former Wellington College rugby star was tipped to join Sydney Roosters young gun Joseph Suaalli in a return to his junior sport.

Jones and Rugby Australia have made no secret of their interest in poaching players from the rival code, with the 2027 World Cup in mind.

Asofa-Solomona joined the Storm in 2014 as an U20s player and has become one of rugby league's most feared forwards.

The two-time Premiership winner's performances saw him make his NZ Kiwis debut in 2017, playing 11 tests since.

Storm chairman Matt Tripp is delighted to secure his services for another four years.

"Nelson already has a tremendous record of achievement here at Storm and we're sure he will continue to build on that over the coming years," he said.

"He's in the prime of his career and is embracing his new role as one of the leaders of our forward pack.

"We hope Nelson will be a one-club player with Storm. This new contract will go a long way to helping to achieve that aim, as he progresses towards and beyond the 200-game milestone.

"I'm sure our members and fans will be delighted to know they will be cheering on big NAS for many more years to come."
