Canoeing: Dame Lisa Carrington edges Kiwi rival Aimee Fisher to win World Cup gold in Hungary

Dame Lisa Carrington has underlined her supremacy by winning Canoe Sprint World Cup gold in the final of the K1 500 in Hungary.

Olympic champion Carrington led from start to finish, holding off her New Zealand rival Aimee Fisher, who was closing in fast on the line in a near photo finish.

The NZ teammates, Carrington and Fisher, were flying the silver fern paddling in lanes alongside one another, with Carrington winning in 1m 54.25s by a margin of 0.37s.

Fisher won silver in a world class performance ahead of Denmark's Emma Jorgensen, who claimed the bronze.

On Saturday, Carrington also won bronze in the K4 alongside Alicia Hoskin, Olivia Brett, and Tara Vaughan.

The World Championships are in Germany in August where Carrington will defend her K1 500 title.
