Cricket: Blackcap Devon Conway continues Indian Premier League scoring spree, as Chennai Super Kings topple Delhi Capitals

Blackcaps batter Devon Conway has continued his hot form in the Indian Premier League, topscoring for Chennai Super Kings in a 77-run victory over Delhi Capitals.

Conway, 31, has been in impressive touch at the top of the order for Chennai, guiding the side to a second-place regular season finish, with the playoffs imminent.

He has so far scored 585 runs at an average of more than 53, behind only South African Faf du Plessis (702 runs at 58.50) and uncapped Indian phenomenon Yashasvi Jaiswal (625 at 48.07).

Against the Capitals at Delhi, Conway continued his exploits, hitting 87 runs in 52 balls, with 11 fours and three sixes, for his sixth half-century in 13 innings.

At the top of the order, he added 141 for the first wicket with Indian Ruturaj Gaikwad (79 off 50), contributing the bulk of Chennai's 223/3 from 20 overs.

Apart from 86 runs to Australian David Warner, Delhi had no answer, making just 146/9 in reply, as Indian Deepak Chahar (3/22) ran riot with the ball to deprive the Capitals a winning end to their season.

Despite making a higher score, Conway was overlooked for Man of the Match honours, which instead went to Gaikwad, who also took two catches in the field.

The victory sees Chennai finish second on the IPL ladder, just behind reigning champions Gujarat Titans, who've played one game less.

Chennai complete the regular season with eight wins and five defeats, and will face the Titans for an automatic spot in the IPL decider on Wednesday.

The losers will face the winners of the third v fourth playoff between Lucknow Super Giants - who qualified in third after a one-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders - and one of Royal Challengers Bangalore, Trent Boult's Rajasthan Royals or Mumbai Indians.
