Super Rugby Pacific: How your team can still mathematically qualify for quarter-finals with two weeks left

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the scramble for Super Rugby Pacific playoff spots is well and truly under way, with all five NZ franchises still in contention.

For some, the battle is for home fixtures, while others are just trying to make the top eight.

Here's how your team can help their cause over the next two weeks...

Chiefs

Position: First (11-1)

This week: v ACT Brumbies at Canberra, Saturday

Riding a 10-game winning streak to start their campaign, the Hamilton-based side are eight points clear of their nearest challengers on the competition table, but still need at least a draw from their last two games to clinch home advantage through the final.

Two bonus-pointless defeats could see both Crusaders and Brumbies sneak past, but the Chiefs can nip the Aussies' challenge in the bud this weekend.

Regardless, they should dispense of Western Force in their final outing.

Crusaders

Position: Second (9-3)

This week: v NSW Waratahs at Christchurch, Saturday

After two losses in their first three games, the six-time defending champions have quietly worked their way up the table, with just a second defeat to runaway leaders Chiefs in the past nine outings.

If the Chiefs hit a late-season wall, the southerners can still sneak past to the top of the table, although that's not likely.

Realistically, they are jockeying for a home semi, but can go a long way to clinching that with a bonus-point win against the Waratahs, especially the Brumbies lose to the Chiefs.

Two bonus-pointless defeats could still see the Crusaders slump to fifth on the table, but they're peaking at the right time.

Blues

Position: Fourth (8-4)

This week: v Hurricanes at Auckland, Saturday

Along with Chiefs v Brumbies, their local derby probably carries biggest playoff implications this weekend, with the winners effectively sealing home advantage in the quarter-finals.

Blues can still finish as high as second and as low as sixth, but play at home over the last two rounds, with the struggling Highlanders looming next week.

Given their inconsistencies this season, anything is still possible for the Aucklanders, who will miss captain Dalton Papali'i on suspension.

Hurricanes

Position: Fifth (8-4)

This week: v Blues at Auckland, Saturday

The Wellingtonians' fate is tied closely to their showdown against the Blues, although the competition's highest-scoring outfit are well placed in any countback at the end of the regular season.

They can also finish as high as second and as low as sixth, but their run into the playoffs is much tougher, with the champion Crusaders visiting the capital next week.

Luckily, coach Jason Holland's guns will be well rested for their final two outings.

Highlanders

Position: Ninth

This week: v Queensland Reds at Dunedin, Friday

Currently sitting outside the playoffs, the southerners will need a win at home this week, because they can't count on points against the Blues at Eden Park in their final outing.

Aaron Smith's final appearance at Forsyth Barr Stadium will carry enough emotion, even before its ramifications on the Highlanders' playoffs fate.

They can finish as high as seventh, but as low as 11th on the table.
