The Crusaders' dwindling front-row stocks are reportedly poised to be provided a much-needed boost by former All Black John Afoa.

According to Stuff, the 39-year-old World Cup winner will join the defending champions for the rest of their Super Rugby Pacific campaign.

The 38-test prop hasn't played Super Rugby since he left the Blues in 2011, the same year he was part of the All Blacks squad that won the World Cup on home soil.

He recently finished his season with French club RC Vannes, the latest stop on his European journey which has also included stays with Ulster, Bristol, and Gloucester. He's contracted with the Vannes through until 2024

Four Crusaders props have fallen to season-ending injuries this year, with Joe Moody the latest to join a group that also includes fellow All Blacks George Bower, Fletcher Newell, as well as Finlay Brewis.

On Saturday afternoon, the Crusaders host the Waratahs in the penultimate round of the season, when Afoa could potentially be rushed into the playing squad just two days after stepping off the plane from France.

After making his debut in 2004, the Aucklander played 101 games for the Blues over eight seasons, before heading north.
