Super Rugby Pacific: Chiefs back Anton Lienert-Brown cited for 'red card threshold' tackle in Super Rugby final

Chiefs midfielder Anton Lienert-Brown has been cited for his high shot in Saturday's Super Rugby Pacific final, which SANZAAR has deemed to meet the "red card threshold".

Just 10 minutes into the match, referee Ben O'Keeffe showed Lienert-Brown a yellow card, after a head-to-head clash with Crusaders opposite Dallas McLeod.

TV official Brendon Pickerill reviewed the incident for a potential upgrade to a red card, but ruled there were enough mitigating factors - McLeod dipped into the contact - for the incident to remain a yellow card, allowing Lienert-Brown to return to the field after 10 minutes.

A red card would seen the Chiefs playing with 14 men for 20 minutes, before replacing Lienert-Brown with a substitute player.

McLeod briefly played on, before he was pulled for a concussion test, which he failed. He was replaced by Chay Fihaki.

Upon review, Sanzaar's citing commissioner has ruled the incident deserved a red card and cited the 56-test All Black for a dangerous tackle.

Lienert-Brown's case will be referred to SANZAAR's foul play review committee for consideration in a video conference on Monday.

He was of three players to receive a yellow card on an undisciplined evening for the Chiefs, as they fell 25-20 to the defending champions.

The penalty count went 15-8 in the Crusaders' favour, resulting in postmatch boos for O'Keeffe and his colleagues from the frustrated Chiefs faithful.
