Super Rugby Pacific: Heavily rotated Chiefs too good for Western Force to finish regular season on a high

Even with 11 changes to their starting side, the Chiefs have outclassed the Force at Perth, ending the Super Rugby Pacific regular season with a 43-19 victory.

The heavily rotated tabletoppers ran in six tries to six different scorers and finished the regular season with a 13-1 record, looming as the team to beat, when the playoffs begin next week.

First-half efforts from Laghlan McWhannell, acting captain Anton Lienert-Brown, Liam Coombes-Fabling and Samipeni Finau gave the Chiefs a comfortable 29-7 lead at the break.

Halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi and replacement loose forward Pita Gus Sowakula scored in the second half to finish the job, as the Chiefs deprived their opponents of a post-season spot.

The Chiefs victory, coupled with Fijian Drua's victory over the Reds, sets up a quarter-final against the Queensland side next weekend.

The Reds were the only team to beat the Chiefs in the regular season, but coach Clayton McMillan's side now have the chance for revenge at their Hamilton fortress.

Chiefs 43 (McWhannell, Lienert-Brown, Coombes-Fabling, Finau, Tahuriorangi, Sowakula tries; Poihipi 5 conversions; Poihipi penalty) Western Force 19 (Tizzano, Anstee, Burey tries; Burey 2 conversions)
