Rugby Championship: All Blacks not wasting second preparing to face South Africa after round trip to Argentina

The All Blacks aren't wasting a single moment in their preparation to face South Africa at Auckland this weekend, using their more than 12-hour flight home to review their win over Argentina.

After the first round of the Rugby Championship, New Zealand sit second on points differential to the Springboks, with their 41-12 victory slightly smaller than South Africa's 43-12 triumph against Australia.

Their return journey was slightly overshadowed by the fate of captain Sam Cane, after his kick at a pitch invader after Sunday's win.

With Cane now seemingly clear of any punishment for his actions, the skipper insists his side's thinking is now solely focused on the world champions.

"I'm just looking forward to this weekend, to be fair," said Cane. "We watched most of that South Africa-Australia game prior to ours.

"Knowing that a large majority of their top side are here in New Zealand… our mindset quickly shifted to recovering the best we could [and] travelling well.

"We'll have a short and different week's prep, but we're excited for the match."

South Africa could have a slight upper hand over the All Blacks, after sending an advance party to New Zealand, missing the win over Australia to overcome any impacts of the long-distance travel.

On the other hand, the home side will now have to reacclimatise to their familiar surroundings, with jetlag likely to impact their week in the lead-up to a test match.

Because of that, Cane says the side spent their flight back from Argentina going over their victory, so players could quickly learn any lessons needed.

"We put some good things out there," he continued. "We'll have a review [on Wednesday] to look a little bit more in-depth from the coaches point of view, but all the boys had their iPads out in transit and on the plane.

"We've done a lot of that work already."

The All Blacks haven't faced South Africa at home since 2019 - before COVID-19 - and haven't beaten the Springboks in Aotearoa since 2017, with a loss and draw in between.
