Golf: Lydia Ko's struggles continue, fails to make the cut at AIG Women's Open

Kiwi Lydia Ko has missed the cut at the AIG Women's Open, finishing the final Major of 2023 in a tie for 89th.

After shooting two over par on the opening day, Ko doubled up with another 74 to finish her second round at four-over and miss the cut by two shots.

Needing to start well after an underwhelming first round, Ko, 24, crumbled at Surrey. A bogey on her first hole was followed up with another on her second - and fourth.

When she dropped another shot to finish her front nine and did so again on the 10th, Ko sat at seven over, with just eight holes to get back down to the projected two-over cut-line.

With progression virtually out of sight, Ko found her best.

Despite another bogey on the 13th, Ko made birdies on the 11th, 14th, 16th and 17th holes, but failed to bridge the gap, after dropping so many shots earlier on.

All up, she finished with a two-over 74 for the second time in as many days, carding four birdies and six bogeys, and failing to reach the weekend.

So far this season, Ko has struggled to recapture her best form, after an upswing of results in 2022.

The now-world No.5 hasn't finished in the top 30 for more than 10 tournaments, with her last top-10 finish coming in February.
