NRL: Loss of talisman Shaun Johnson won't deter diehard NZ Warriors fans in Penrith Panthers territory

NZ Warriors have had an early wake-up call, with a group of passionate fans cheering outside their Sydney hotel.

They weren't letting the shock loss of star halfback Shaun Johnson get to them and have declared war in Panthers territory.

They've had the faith since '95... the warcry since '20-23.

"Up the Wahs, up the Wahs!"

Wherever the Warriors go, Wah-mania now follows.

Outside the team hotel, they were waiting and hoping their heroes would hear them.

"I was coming for a run and heard all this ruckus out here," said assistant coach Justin Morgan. "It's great to have some fans."

These brave few, representing the Mt Smart faithful, are also deep in enemy territory - loud, proud, day-one, diehard supporters.

The last time the Warriors made the playoffs in 2018, their opposition were none other than the Penrith Panthers. The difference then - they barely scraped into the top eight.

There's still belief it can happen this year - their year - even without their talisman.

With 24 hours to go, you don't need to worry back home.

"We're going to rock that place, scream that roof down... show them how to do it New Zealand style."

These fans are ready to out-roar the Panthers.
