Golf: Kiwi Lydia Ko slips from contention with disastrous triple bogey at Arkansas Championship

Kiwi Lydia Ko has slipped down the leaderboard at the LPGA Arkansas Championship, after recording a disastrous triple bogey early in the second round at Pinnacle Country Club.

Ko sat just one stroke off the lead at six under par, after her opening round of 65, but lived a golfer's nightmare on the second day, unable to judge a chip to the green of the par-four 13th hole.

Three times, she watched her ball roll back to her feet, before eventually scuffing it along the ground and almost into the hole from off the green for a seven.

Ko carded a one-over 72, falling nine strokes behind Korean leader Hae Ran Ryu in a tie for 37th - two shots inside the weekend cutline.

After sweeping all accolades last year - winning the US$2 million Tour Championship, the Vare Trophy for low scoring and LPGA Player of the Year, Ko has struggled in 2023, earning just US$209,776 across 15 tournaments.

Since tying for fourth at the Honda LPGA Thailand in February, her best performance has been ties for 33rd at the US Open and Americas Open, while also missing four cuts.
