Football Ferns have fallen to a 1-0 defeat in their second match against Colombia in Bogota.

The hosts were the most threatening throughout the contest but had to rely on a defensive error from the New Zealanders for the game-winning goal.

Defender Katie Bowen – making her 100th appearance for New Zealand - didn't intervene with an innocuous cross from Daniela Montoya, with goalkeeper Anna Leat left to watch it hit the back of her net in the 71st minute.

The result comes a few days after Ferns played out a goalless draw against the Colombians and brings their 2023 record to two wins in 16 games.

The match was played behind closed doors at the request of the Colombian Football Federation.

Yet again, Jitka Klimkova's side failed to generate any genuine scoring opportunities. They've now scored just a single a goal since their win over Norway in their World Cup opener at Eden Park.

The Football Ferns now turn their attention to qualifying for the Paris 2024 Olympics with an Oceania qualifying tournament scheduled for Samoa in February.
