Coach Jitka Klimkova will miss the Football Ferns' upcoming international friendlies against Japan, while an investigation is conducted into an employment related matter.

Assistant coach Michael Mayne will step in as her place for the two matches at Murcia, Spain on June 1 and June 4. Both games will take place at Estadio Nueva Condomina.

NZ Football says Klimkova voluntarily took the leave of absence and will not make any further comment on the matter, until the investigation is concluded.

A former defender for the Czech national team, Klimkova took the reins with the Football Ferns in 2021.

Last year, she guided New Zealand to their first win at a Football World Cup in their 1-0 victory over Norway in the opening match of the tournament at Auckland.
