A landline outage has hit a range of business call centres across New Zealand.

Dunedin City Council, Metlink Wellington and the Interislander Ferry have all tweeted they are having issues with their phone lines.

Vodafone has confirmed there is a technical issue affecting some of its business customers.

"We’ve been urgently working to fix a technical issue impacting some corporate customers in NZ this morning, which was causing some calls to call centres to fail," spokesperson Nicky Preston told Newshub.

"Our technical teams have been working urgently to fix this, and services are restoring. Calls should be back up and running as usual very soon."

"Due to a national outage, calls to our Customer Service Agency landline may not be connecting at present," Dunedin City Council wrote.

"It is not yet known how long the outage will last. We’ll update you when we know more and apologies for any inconvenience."
