Controversial billionaire Elon Musk had a romantic affair last year with the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, according to the Wall Street Journal.

That's left the two former friends at odds, with sources claiming Brin has asked his financial advisers to sell his investments in Musk's companies.

Sources also told the WSJ that the Tesla CEO got down on one knee to beg the Google co-founder for forgiveness during a party.

Brin divorced wife Nicole Shanahan in January with the pair citing "irreconcilable differences", according to court filings, which were submitted weeks after he learned of the affair.

According to the WSJ the affair began in December last year in Art Basel in Miami. Brin and Shanahan were reportedly separated, but still living together at the time.

Musk, who is currently being sued by social media platform Twitter to force him to complete a US$44 billion takeover deal, was reportedly separated from former partner Grimes.

He had two children with the singer before they split in September, the second of which was born via surrogate the same month as the affair.

It was a busy time for the controversial Musk, after news emerged earlier this month that he had twins with Shivon Zilis, a top executive at his brain-chip startup Neuralink, in November 2021.

The latest on Musk's love life comes just days after it was announced his father Errol had a second child with his 35-year-old step-daughter, Jana Bezuidenhout.

Musk Senior was married to Bezuidenhout's mother for 18 years and raised Jana since she was four-years-old.

He told UK tabloid The Sun he had also been asked to donate sperm to high-class women to "create a new generation of Elons".

"I've got a company in Colombia who want me to donate sperm to impregnate high-class Colombian women because they say, 'Why go to Elon when they can go to the actual person who created Elon'," he told the newspaper.

"They haven't offered me any money but they have offered me first-class travel and five-star hotel accommodation and all that sort of stuff."
