One of Air New Zealand's Auckland to Los Angeles flights had to return to Auckland not long after take-off on Friday night.
Air NZ Flight 6 left Auckland just before 8pm before the decision was made to return to Auckland for engineering reasons.
The Boeing 777-300 burnt off fuel, flying north-east of the Coromandel Peninsula, before returning to Auckland.
The aircraft was inspected by engineers and the issue was fixed.
Passengers were given accommodation on Friday night before continuing on to Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.
