Southwest Airlines has begun an investigation after a passenger complained she was sitting next to a man watching porn on his iPad.

Elly Shariat, a public relations consultant, tweeted the airline during the flight to let them know what was happening.

"I've spent this entire flight sitting next to a guy who has his iPad open on the tray table, watching porn, WITHOUT using headphones or anything," she wrote.

"Twice now his body has started shaking in the throes of his orgasmic bliss. I'm so disgusted."

The airline responded telling Ms Shariat it wasn't the type of thing they want to have happen on any of their flights and to alert the flight crew, but she said she wasn't able to because she'd been trapped by a sleeping passenger.

Ms Shariat went on to live-tweet the entire experience.

"He doesn't even have a nice (eggplant emoji). It's tiny AF. Not full on micro or anything, but damn near close. And yes, I've seen it, because he hasn't bothered to hide it," another tweet said.

"OMG he just handed his (splashing water emoji) filled napkins to the flight attendant to throw away."

Ms Shariat said there was no way the crew couldn't have seen what the man was doing, and that he told her he hoped she enjoyed the show before getting off the plane.

The airline told TMZ they were looking into reports that a customer was viewing material deemed 'inappropriate by another customer'.

Ms Shariat declined the offer of a dinner voucher from the airline, and is now discussing the matter further with representatives from Southwest.
