Feeling a little down in the middle of this grey and gloomy Kiwi winter? 

The Daily Mail has released a list of Instagram's 25 most popular beaches so we've pulled together the best so you can escape those winter blues (even if just from your desk). 

1. Whitehaven Beach, Australia

Queensland's Whitehaven Beach came in at number one with a whopping 129,585 photos posted to Instagram. This seven-kilometre beach is situated on the shores of the lush Whitsunday Island and was rated the number one beach in the South Pacific as part of TripAdvisor's 2017 Travellers' Choice Awards. 

2. Lanikai Beach, Hawaii

Lanikai Beach on Hawaii's island of Oahu came in second place with 117,525 posts to Instagram. This slice of turquoise paradise regularly ranks among best beach lists, with its name appropriately translating to 'heavenly sea'. 

3. Horseshoe Bay, Bermuda

In third place is Bermuda's Horseshoe Bay with 90,404 posts. This white sandy cove is known for its crystal clear waters and natural horseshoe shape.

4. Cayo Coco Beach, Cuba 

With 84,494 posts the gorgeous Cayo Coco beach is straight from a desktop background. It's also home to a colony of pink flamingos, said to be the largest in the Americas.

5. Bavaro Beach, Dominican Republic

To the south east of Cayo Coco is Dominican's Bavaro Beach, which sits on 83,183 posts. With its endless white sandy beaches and crystal-clear blue waters, Bavaro attracts divers for its colorful offshore reefs.

6. Boulders Beach, South Africa 

With its ancient Boulders, this South African hotspot comes in six place with 77,748 posts. The scattered rocks shelter the beach from winds meaning it's a great spot for a summer dip.

7. Bournemouth Beach, United Kingdom

A classically British seaside town on England's south coast. With 72,503 photos on Instagram, many of its shots include an iconic looking English pier.

8. Pink Sands Beach, Bahamas

This idyllic pale pink sandy beach came in eighth with 71,087 posts. Its distinct colour comes from microscopic coral insects with bright red shells known as Foraminifera. 

9. Ao Nang, Thailand

Thailand's Ao Nang had 60,812 posts. Visitors love to take snaps of its great sunset views which fit perfectly behind epic limestones headlands. 

10. Playa Paraiso Beach, Mexico

Closely behind Ao Nang is Mexico's Playa Paraiso with 60,381 posts. With an average water temperature of 21 degrees Celsius, this is straight from the holiday of our dreams.
